Just changing timing belt,

Put timing pin the the flywheel and the injection pimp, but the crank timing mark is way out? Or am I being stupid?

Okay. I didn't get chance to finish it, after sorting out flu wheel and crank wheel timing I thought the problem were sorted,

But the timing pin on the fuel pump won't slot in, you have hold pump between rotations to get it to go in making meaning pressure on it and when pull it out it slides back?

Any idea's need to get back together for weekend?

Pin the pump with the three bolts loose enough to allow the pulley to rotate back and forth. Set the cam and crank in their correct positions then fit the belt & tensioner, Set the belt tension, this will cause the pump pulley to move slightly. Once tensioned check all timing marks are still aligned then tighten the three bolts. Remove timing pins, rotate engine 2 revolutions and stop with no1 at TDC, inset flywheel timing pin, check cam timing mark, if ok then you should be able to get the pump pin back in (may need a very slight tweak). If all ok remove all pins and re-assemble rest of engine.
 
Sorry probably a stupid question but want to be sure I am correct in thinking, with the mark on crank lined up and the timing pin in the fly wheel that has to be TDC. (even if the engine has been rotated with the belt off?)

Don't worry if the fuel pump pin is a bit hard to remove. I have done a good number of timing belt changes on 300tdi and I usually need pliers to pull the timing pin out (greasy fingers on a smooth surface don't grip well enough).

Okay, cheers, I'll start again later and see if I can get it all back together and running!
 
Got back together, triple check timing and got so pin pulled in out out freely, started had horrible knocking noise!
