Accy, I think you're missing the point here.
In summary: Donk starts a thread about a half days 'greenlaning' with some pictures which annoy/infuriate people as they patently show Dork et al doing exactly what the majority of us avoid doing i.e: contributing towards the churning up of a byway to the point where it's likely to be closed to traffic for a very long time.
A few people quite rightly comment on this, in an actually quite amiable way and Donk seeks to try to defend an indefencible position with aggression, veiled threats and abuse (and a load of old twaddle about writing to the Council, actually preserving the countryside & being waved at by happy little ramblers, oh c'mon!)
Codbasher then posts some more pictures further confirming how irresponsible their little half day out was and further demonsrating how attempting to drive through terrain like that should be kept to pay & play days & in quarries & the like where no-one actually cares what damage you do.
Because his misguided approach attracts opposing views he goes crying to the mods again asking for the thread to be closed. Why ffs?
If you can't have lively debate about a relevant and very emotive issue on a forum devoted exclusively to that subject then er, what's the point?
When on a forum created to discuss a common hobby you see such a flagrant disregard for the code which is there to actually preserve that particular aspect of our hobby (greenlaning) of course people will get a bit fired up.
What is more disturbing is the apparent narrow mindedness that refuses to allow a bunch of, at best misguided idiots, at worst, arrogant, self serving pillocks to see that churning up the countryside to such an extent in the pursuit of 'fun' merely plays into the hands of the vast array of people out there trying to kil our hobby. There's plenty looking for further fuel to add to their arguments as to why vehicular rights to the places we enjoy should be recinded & I would'nt put it past them to trawl sites like this looking for posts & pictures to assist them.
Top job, well done, give yourself a big pat on the back courtesy of the ramblers.
For the GLASS members amongst us & those who feel they approach greenlaning in a responsible manner (you can always turn around, amazingly LRs do go backwards as well as forwards!) it's gutting to see all the bridge building and attitude changing we try to initiate being trashed so completely by people who are supposed to be involved in the same hobby, but fail so completely to see how utterly wrong they actually are.
Right, that's my two pennorth, now Dork, PLEASE add me to your ignorance list. I find it unlikely that our views will ever be anything other than poles apart. If I had your address I'd send you a pair of long red woolly socks in recognition of services rendered, above and beyond the call of duty to the Ramblers Society of Great Britain. You've just saved them loads of work & I'm sure will continue to advance their prohibitive cause in ways they could only dream of and thank you for.
