Hi,

Yr 2000 4.0ltr petrol - suffering from overheating probs

Had new head gasket
new o rings on matrix
new water pump
new radiator
new hoses
2 x new thermostats
new expansion vessel cap
checked, double checked, triple checked quadruple checks for air locks - all removed
new viscious fan
Condenser fans do work - ive seen them turning
No leaks

When she overheats shes loses of lots water from expansion tank, also noticed that hoses are pressurized and radiator still cold at bottom, thermostat definitely works as i tested it before i put it in.

suspect cracked block - anyone know somewhere in SE Essex where i can get the block pressure tested ? or any other ideas ?

Duff rad, needs to be hot all over
Cracked liners if losing coolant

+1 on the duff rad, have heard of some new ones with the baffle in the top missing, and water is then not forced all around rad.Goes in the top at one side and straight across and out the top at the other side.

New rad fitted 2 weeks ago - is the baffle vertical or horizontal ? and how do i test ?

someone may know better but i think the trick is to put a marble or similar in top of rad-off the car- and see if you can roll the marble from one side to the other. If you can you have no baffle. No baffle=overheat ;)

You say hose Pressurising it has been know. For new cheap gaskets to fail not be fitted properly did you have heads skimmed as well

Your right. There is no baffle in the V8 radiator. Does sound like you still have an air lock as a new rad should have an even temperature from top to bottom.

Should the temperature be gradually getting lower from top to bottom as antifreeze cools down?

heads skimmed when gasket replaced

radiator at top is almost too hot to touch, at bottom almost cold - cold on lower part of thermostat

no loss of coolant but when she overheats expansion vessel is under a lot of pressure. No smell of exhaust gasses in expansion vessel.

hot air coming through internal events

if liner has cracked then i should be losing coolant

even if liner is loose and causing extra friction heat under movement then why is radiator cold at lower half.

any ideas???

would have to be massive air lock - followed rave when filled

fitted new pump with metal impeller when gasket replaced

bottom hose off water floods out

erring on liner prob
