i get cold :(
Thermal overalls with tyre tread braces ;)

I got my eye on the weekend for nailing at least 3/4 of mine, literally just want the sill to do by the end of Sunday, long shot but i miss driving it so much and I've had my fill of being bullied in a eurobox, be it my van or the Pug

Re Series 3, decent set of paras in there and they are a joy to drive, engine dependent of course :D

My take on that series would probably upset the rivet counters in a big way! Hopefully you get some smashed out. I think I'll be welding up that bulkhead surround Saturday. It needs some time on it. Had a really good day on it the other day. Warpage is a bitch though.
I am awaiting my rear sill mount repair kit for mine. Here's a question- weld the cleaned up outrigger onto a plate on the bench then weld plate onto chassis or just weld it direct to chassis on existing cut lines? Gotta get that bsstard os rear quarter off too at some point. All arms are bushes and painted so I'm ready to go on that front.

in the summer - Bloody awful in this weather.

I would do it in situ - or at least tack it in place in situ.
Welding up externally means, chances are, it wont fit propper.

Hmm yeah we don't want it wonky. Series 3 is actually my favourite landy I think. I want a limestone one with a rag top roof or a pick up 88. but then, what do I do with it? 300tdi? Doubt it id want more than 4 cylinders in petrol form. Then it probably goes ecu and maf and away from what I find great about my d1. So in short, I need a d1, cos I'm not short haha

Are we talking plate chassis hole, weld outrigger to plate then seam weld plate to chassis or outrigger to oversize plate & cut chassis to fit?

SWB 88 would get a KV6 2.5ltr on a ZF S6-37D manual box coupled to an LT230 with selectable 4x4 kit & 3.5 ratio HD R&Ps in the diffs with a 4 pin open front an Eton locked back axle.

Soz need Kleenex now

What he said.

I'm going to have to go with the latter. There's going to be ****ing welds everywhere on that side. I worry about weakening it but not much choice now!

Would an lt85 box mate to a p38 bell housing? If so......

Also, I was thinking about something totally different in the way home that would be a crazy yet high mpg transfer but you'd loose landy torque.

A blacktop 4age 20v on trumpets

No but you could get an adaptor for it to mate to your new engine.

I fancied doing it the other way entirely, same old agricultural 200Tdi and use a modern gearbox, Toyota AB60e 6 speed auto with the latest compushift controller would be amazing, low 1st and plenty of gears between a 3.333 1st and a 0.588 6th, or use the ZF S6-37D manual 6 speed box I mentioned earlier to give you an ultra low 4.350 1st gear but an oddly low geared 0.851 6th which is in fact lower than the 0.77 of the LT77 o_O but if you are upping your tyres from the standard 29" to say 33" or maybe even 35" a lower top gear might be more desirable unless you are swapping out diff ratios for say a 4.1 HD R&P to bring the gearing back down to something closer to normal.

I've earmarked the Lexus LS400 from 2001 ~ 2007 with the 4ltr 1UZFE mated to a Toyota A750E 5 speed auto as a potential donor vehicle for future projects, the LS being rear wheel drive means the tranny could easily remote couple to either a divorced LT230 or Borg Warner. Think that was originally for a P38 itch I wanted to scratch but backed away from but it would make a fab conversion in just about any Land Rover, if you look hard on the bay and G~Tree they can even be found with full sequential LPG kits fitted for not much wedge ;)

Tis a peach of an engine. I always would have loved an aristo too with a 1jz. A 1uzfe would suit a disco lovely.

Due to the car not being sealed off the camps string in. The roof was even being attsched.

This called for high times up in the rafters!!
I cut in my decorating first, digging s little brush into all the seams. I also noticed my roof sits 5mm or so proud of the cross beam at the back!!!
Flipped my axle and gave it a final coat too. Ready for install but do need little bits like plug washers etc. Time to haul it outside onto the dolly once there's no ice to slip on.

The inside of your Disco now reminds me of when I was a cleaner in the slaughter house of an abattoir

Good work on the axle and suspension components, looking very smart :)

I like the old rotten spring seat next to the nice new one all welded in :)

Cheers. I get an odd kit out of making a battered thing good again and adding little touches. I don't want to bolt it all together and think "i could have taken 10 to clean that"
It was more like a hot box than an abattoir lol. I love this red bonda. Might have mentioned that haha. As soon as I saw Chris's turning from mucky to red I wanted in. I can't believe there was rust even in the laps in the roof. When I have a sunny day again I'll get the sealer in. Turns out that sealer is a sika product - could tell it was good stuff.
This whole car is going red.

My Mrs made me think too.... it's a big birthday this summer and she offered to get me the sgs compressor and kit I have my eye on. :):):)
The defender will be going raf blue or whatever it is. I had in my head limestone for mine but then that's maybe too series so thought NATO green but then that's been done even though I still love it. Keswick green - not sure it would work...

Then I thought, why not do exactly what's on it. This may be a bit too much for me though with clear coats etc. I'm thinking out loud again o_O maybe, an enamel of similar guise.... thoughts??? WWJLD?
