Some folk are experimenting with rubbing down chrome swivels and filling them with chemical metal to remove pits then spraying them with a quality acrylic/epoxy paint to smooth them over, with good results.

Regards stub axles, no preference, doesn't seem to be a breakable item.

I have just fitted 4x bearmach so I hope that is true anyway!

Disco 200 rear stub axles are expensive! FRC4320 fits and is cheaper but uses a different lock washer style.

Not sure on price of disco 200 front as have just fitted AEU2522 cv which uses FRC4320 stub axle anyway.

If disco 200 front stubs are cheap then ok to fit 4x fronts all round.

Use RTC3511 inner hub seal, ditch the outer seal, lightly grease your wheel bearings for initial lube and allow your hubs to run in axle/swivel oil

Also do not use one shot swivel grease, use ep90 as originally intended

Use Corteco FTC3401 swivel seals, but must make sure swivel balls are good or oil will leak

This setup works as a complete system, post up if you have queries, getting one part if it wrong could end up in some components without proper lubrication.

Good luck :)

You have such a gift of making a simple job sound so complicated mate. Haha. Ep90? Really? Would have to be a good seal then wouldn't it. So the front stub axle fits all round. I'll look into prices and see what I can find.

My 200 has the 24 spline axles. Not sure if that makes any difference, just with u saying the 200 stubs are expensive. It's a 94 so it's a bit of a mishmash of 200 and 300 parts. Only thing I've found to be 200 so far is engine and headlights. An it's all as it came off production line. She's a bit of a mungrel but I love her....

Land rovers were designed for and prefer ep90 in the swivels.

Trust me, dry top bearings from using swivel grease are testament to this.

ALL land rover design changes are to lower maintenance and oil leakage.

Guess what, maintenance is good, oil is good!

10 spline front fit all round but allow me to elaborate in next post...

Nothing wrong with a 200 24 mongrel.

24 spline setup is different, again design changes made for the worse.

The shaft splines were better but that is it.

Anyway 24 spline uses stub axle seals all round, you don't want these if you are running oil hubs

Up to you but the amount of bone dry 24 spline hubs I have stripped down is quite disturbing.

RTC3511 is the daddy seal to fit to hub inners, good quality only, fit to depth 4mm

To reiterate, up to you entirely if you choose to deviate from current spec but I promise you land rover weren't doing you any favours when they recommended greasing things instead of oil.

Grease doesn't leak, that is the ONLY reason they chose it.

So, small update.

Axles are now built, calipers on and ready to roll.

Interior is back in and handbrake is connected back up thank god, manoeuvring a car around with NO form of braking is a seriously tricky business!

Decent day yesterday, planned the brake hose install which I ordered today off Dave @ llama4x4, fitted tubular shicj turrets I've had for ages, cut up and welded the QT diff guard brackets onto the axle casing instead of having them bolted onto the diff and made a bralcte to relocate the 300 type brake bias valve

Pics to follow when hoses arrive :)
