I know they won't fit D1 axle, but just interested in how D2 brakes compare? I suppose 200tdi ayre will be using them on his rear axle?

They're meant to be better and my TD5 disco stands on its nose when breaking so hoping that my 90 thats over galf a tonne lighter should stop pretty quick :D

IMO d2 brakes were a backwards step in the caliper department, being single or at the very best twin pot (can't remember) floating Calipers as opposed to decent 4pot fixed calipers on earlier vehicles

That's not to say that the clamping force wasnt equal or better, but I always prefer solid calipers, as floating calipers rely on the sliding pins which can easily swell and seize after water ingress!

Yeah mine stop really well too, some people put fancy pads and grooved disks in, but I just use standard disks and mintex pads, no fade to speak of either (heard folks with EBC green stuff complain of it).

P38 brakes are crap

How so? Just undersized for a P38?

OK I can understand this, had seized pins on mine before (with 10 yr old calipers mind you!).
 
honestly though after fitting the 110 setup on the front, it locks the front wheels (on tarmac) without too much trouble so definitely better!

I've had to do a number of repairs, track rod ends, panhard bush and £100 rose joint from QT :eek: and new A frame bushes as the car had become near undriveable.

That's all sorted now and she drives lovely again.

But that's boring, you lot wana see some mods :D

So I'll get some pictures later!

What was the rose joint for? Panard or arms?
what size is the join out of curiosity?
you should get something made up with a cheaper join son!
 
QT Panhard mate

It an M16x2.00 male thread with a 14mm hole at 21mm thick.

The fact that the joint was 16mm/14mm made it hard to source as far as i could see

did the usual stuff like rosejoints.co.uk and everything seemed to be equal sized! :(

i had to bite the bullet in the end...

i did look at options

even thought about drilling the axle to 16mm

but then though keeping oem 14mm is better for emergencies

i also thought about sleeving but its hard enough keeping play under control as it is, without even more surfaces to wear!

Sleaving is a very viable option, it would not result in any additional wear. You could even make it from en24 or stainless which is harder if your that worried about wear.

Oh and maybe a thou interference for a light press fit aswell.
