Nice to see it dirty Sam! :D

Quick question.

How did you go about turning the air con pump into an air compressor?
Looking to do it too as I have one that I removed when I ripped out the air con.

Will be for airing up tyres to start with then ash lockers when I've saved some more money. :)

hi mate

yeah no worries

first off is it a sanden pump and does it look like mine?

secondly, if its an orbital piston type stylee pump which has about 7 small pistons on an orbital drive plate, then it should be same/similar

third, take the back plate off the pump with the obvious bolts, and remove the valve plate (this is from memory btw) and then before too long you should see the pistons

theres some flimsy gaskets etc so be dead careful

you are looking for a drilling that goes between the the air side of the pistons, through to the gearbox which is basically the back side of the pistons and all the other gubbins

this is so that oil from the refridgerant can get through into the gubbins and keep them lubed

however, we are pumping air not refridgerant so thats not gonna happen

you need to find this little hole (about 3mm) and block it up

either drill and tap it, or use some epoxy or sealant

whatever, as long as it wont come out

not the end of the world if it does, but youll get oily air and thats bad.

anyway so once that hole is blocked, put all the stuff back together, and then remove the plug in the side of the gearbox area

turn the pump upside down etc to drain any oil out of it that is swilling around, and then sit it on the bench and jam your grease gun in the hole, and fill the gearbox full of high temp lithium grease

swivel grease could be another good shout but its tried and tested on regular high temp grease

anyway so once its full, plug back in and away you go

they are quite noisy (read:kinda scary) when you fire them up so try not to be alarmed but by jove do they pump some air even on tickover

i havent yet but i will be doing tomorrow and you should do the same, check the gubbins box after a reasonable amount of use and refill with grease where necessary as no doubt it will have melted/spread out etc

but yeah other than that pretty damn simple, 12v supply to the clutch wiring from your pressure switch, could not be easier!

Done parkwood yesterday, great success!!

no failures, squeaky drive belts need tightening more though!

also was really nice being on full lock wide open throttle with no worries :D

My mate has some i think but me personally no

I'm not a great picture taker when off road, kinda busy destroying my precious vehicle

Just goes to reinforce my dislike for pay&pay sites :(

Gonna have to use my special panel beater techinique on it then make it disappear with magic green disappearing liquid!

Yep im the same, dad asks, have ypu got any pictures ... nit really u was driving ... haha hopefully some vids ppp up though of me winching id like to see them too :D

Yeah I much prefer a set course like trialling instead of willy nilly P+P

It's the driving round and round with the sole purpose of vehicle destruction that I don't enjoy.

I mean it's a laugh yes, but Parkwood is more destruction than challenge for me now, the vehicle can drive 99% of it and will get damaged on the other 1% so you're in a no win situation.

That panel damage happened in a trough somewhere, kinda up the hill at the side of the lake there was a trough with a very steel exit, and it curved round at the exit, I decided to be determined and drive out rather than winch but the long rear end of the disco was digging into the bank and I was rocking her back and forth to get some momentum going

Feel like a plonker now of course but what can you do, I'm glad it's fixable and not too bad anyway, but do wonder why I bothered going.

We only went to prove a point as the last two visits have been a disaster! :D

The steep walled trough with no water in? If so I know exactly where you mean, seen it claim quite a few injuries.

It was only a short trough and had reasonably deep water, but the walls were only up to the mirrors

Just a dug out in the mud jobby not a proper gully

Anyway all is well

I got the jig out to straighten the panel

Then put the magic disappearing liquid on

And now I can't even remember where it was damaged :p

The light has been assigned to the graveyard though :(
