Just made a "substantial" order with Ashcroft for all the transfer case components :behindsofa:

Hopefully goodies will arrive tomorrow for picture taking!

Have also decided to bite the bullet and get some Ashcroft CV joints, might aswell get the job done once and for all eh?

Plenty more saving to do in which case, but im getting there

Thinking more of input shaft!

Would be looking to keep 5th gear same as tdi tbh because it is same as current v8 lt77 5th

And doc has a v8 r380 input shaft for sale

Maybe I should be messaging him...

I do have a brand new one sat here with bearings and a cover plate, I'm even in a good mood at the minute :p got a new bellhousing too

^^^^ instantly he's here not unlike a bad smell and coming over like he's your best buddy :p

But yeah I did spot it before and thought hmmm

Input shaft, td5 box, bit of a tickle with new parts...

Don't know TOO much about r380s tbh but i do know my old faithful lt77 inside out :D

Snigger shurrup or I'll stop texting your engine pics, well its here with a new Timken bearing on it and the R380 bellhousing too ;)

R380 is rated for higher torque than the LT77 and it gives a smoother change from what I've read.

Cant comment on the V8's though as I've only driven a 200 and 300 with both gearboxes never the V8. Taken the old R380 apart a few times though to swap input shaft and bearings though and was nice and simple :)

Also got the brick ****house box LT95 sat here too but that wants some new rings in it as its got a whine

Yeah I mean an r380 is a generally refined lt77 and usually better at everything

Most need a full rebuild to cure various problems but that's that

I've recently passed off the idea of ever fitting any non rover v8 motor in the LR so r380 would be a good choice

Let me do a little research, I'll text you in return for more pics :D

No worries ;) I'll be passing through peaks on thursday early afternoon once I've collected the axles so if you're about I may swing by

Hmmm,

Depending on timing I'll have a 380 minus top turret available once I've rebuilt the one on my bench. It's the one currently in my motor, the input shaft on it is a little sloppy but that won't matter if you're dropping a V8 one in.

I need to get cracked on and dismantle the one on my bench to make sure there's no terminal damage...

You sound like the right bloke to speak to about this

As far as I can see all the suffixes had different input shafts? Or did I guess that wrong?

Also could I fit my d1 lt77 turret with diff lock linkage to a d2 r380 or would I need d1 r380 turret?

Hmmmm :)

+1 to what the Doc says - reason you wouldn't want a selector housing from me is mine would be the D2 housing which is different to what you need, D1 housing has the tbox selector housing attached.... IIRC
