by the way if your gonna do it you realy want to shorten your actuator arm about 5mm to increase boost an make full use of the extra fuel
You can wind it in so there is no threads left exposed.!
I ended up cutting 5 mm from the end of the actuator then winding in to get a bit more, with all the pump tweaks as well she really is V8 eater!!:D
 
if you read the artical i linked to the guy says if you over do it you can cook the turbo as it can over heat, its worth a read.
 
Yep, if you are going dog-nuts with the tweaks, get a EGT gauge fitted or you risk burnt valves, melted pistons and fried turbos, you won't get any warning either.

As someone has already stated that the engine started getting hot, this would indicate that it's over done on the adjustments. I would also expect shorter engine life too once the power is taken beyond standard which no one will know without a dyno test.

Don't forget that diesels get hotter with increased fuelling, petrols get hotter with decreased fuelling. It might not smoke before damage occurs, but it sure will once it does ;)
 
Moving forward the next task is to fit a boost gauge and and EGT (Exhaust Gas Temp) probe. Then monitor the readings and slowly increase boost pressure and tweak pump to suit.

I must say that I am very surprised with the diesels performance. Having had 3 v8's (1 200, 1 300 and a D2) I am not disappointed with its get up and go. I truly believe it is faster than the D2 and that only had 60k on the clock!

This evening though the extra speed down familiar roads did show the old tyres are in need of replacement. :-(

all I need to do know is replace the inner wings, front light panels, boot floor, rear cross member and both inner cills. It will probably be slower then with all that metal in her:-(

Just bear in mind i did say 120 degrees.

The first time i did it i read the description wrong (got 2 1/2 turn in my head from somewhere :( ) sure it went like the klappers but the exhaust gas temp must have been through the roof. Soon wound it back didnt want to upset her.

She has all the power she needs with 120 degrees DADDY screw, Diaphram from 9 - 1 o'clock, star wheel turned 180 degrees, K & N air filter, de cat & middle box replacement, EGR blanked, running on 5w/40 Fully Syn ;)
 
Having done my b-in-ls 300tdi yes this makes an awful lot of difference but V8 eater :hysterically_laughi

You need to make up 30plus bhp just to match a 3.5 V8, 70bhp to get into 3.9/4.0 territory. My b-in-ls might be gettin close to TD5 performance but V8....... not in a million years.
 
its not all about BHP.

Not entirely no but as you are starting out at a factory base of about 110bhp and 0-60 in 16-17secs and all you are doing is increasing the power output then it's still going to take a lot more horses to turn it into a sub 11sec V8 eater than I beleive this mod could possibly produce.
 
I think i may give the 'daddy screw' a 30 degree turn at the weekend. It pulls like a train now, so not going to over do it.

But that nagging in the back of my mind still wants to take 6mm of the turbo actuator arm :eek: Boys and they're toys...
 
I have just tweaked my diaphragm :)

Torx screw was already up a bit, so i just tweaked the diaphragm about 30deg, i would rather be a tad under-powered and safe than running the old girl at full blurt. She was running fine anyways but just a felt a bit flat when faced with a hill, the torx tweak fixed the pull-away flat spot.

Marked the position, pulled it all out, checked which direction would increase not decrease then stuck it back together and road-tested. There was some oil in the top of the chamber too, cleaned that out as well.

Even for such a small tweak, it does feel better. We're taking her to Cornwall in 2 weeks, doing about 1000 miles probably, see how she goes. Then the week after its 2600kg trailer back on and we're off to Suffolk for a show:)

The old girls' probably never worked so hard :)

to give an idea of the performance u can expect - when i leave my house an pull on to the mqin road its straight up a steep hill for about 350 mtrs - before i adjusted the pump at all it would reach 47 mph at the top of the hill now itl reach 66 mph at the top -
makes pullin out onto a fast road less awkward

Early V8s were only 113bhp. But as said before, bhp isn't everything - what's more important is acceleration - and the way a tweaked Tdi pulls between 1,800-3,500 rpm is impressive. This equates to very nice acceleration from 30-60mph. 0-60 means nothing in real world driving.

Tonight or saturday, i'm going to shorten my actuator arm by two turns and feedback what the results are. I've seen lots threads on the internet about how much to shorten by for other engines but nothing relating to the 200tdi. Unless of course anyone can tell me now...

I cut mine and now it's very short, probably lost around 15mm in total including threads.
My old 200tdi wastegate was rusted shut and I run it like that for years.
The little T25's don't move a lot of air so at max boost your hardly likely to do any damage in my opinion.
I got a hold of a 200tdi exhaust manifold for my 300tdi as they can accept a bolt on turbo, I did plan on putting a humongous T4 turbo on that but decided against it for now.
I have a TD04L which is similar in size to a T3.
That's going on....:D
 
Ok, i've seen threads on the internet saying adjust at 3mm increments you see :) Without a boost gauge i don't want to over do it! Or an EGT gauge for that matter!
 
Then get a boost gauge and if you really want to push luck then get an EGT too.

The boost gauge is really the only way that you can see what's going on in there.

I'm still not sure of the point in pushing an old 2300kg disco with mega turbos and over tweaked pumps etc, if I wanted performance I would have got a sports car. Still that's just me I guess.
