im gunna be doing this tmoro on my disco, to turn the diaphram do you turn the centre nut clockwise or hold the diaphram its self and turn it? thanks

turn diaphram itself. Mark it in relation to pump then pull it out, turn it CW about 90deg and try it up road

No I'm going steady,Danny don't want to bust anything on the old girl-might just up it a bit though :D:D

You won't get any more power by turning the smoke screw any more,it only gives it more fuel at low boost/revs,the screw pushes down on the diaphram but as soon as the turbo builds up boost it pushes the diaphram down away from the screw.Even though the smoke screw makes a big difference to setting off the other two adjustments are the ones that give you the most benefits.
When I did mine I turned everything up full to see what it was like then turned it back gradually till I got the level of smoke and performance I wanted,I turned it back quite a way but it still goes like **** of a shiny shovel so you don't need to go to the max.
So,if you do all three adjustments but in moderation you will have a tdi with better performance and mpg ;)

many thanks :D

Mark the diaphragm in relation to the pump body first, there is a pip punched into the centre of it.

Then carefully pull it out, look at the cone on the bottom, it's off-centre, max fuel is gained when the cone is as far to the rear of the vehicle as possible, I think the punched pip marks max power point of cone.

Then carefully slip it back in an I would only turn it about 30degrees at a time I.e from 1 o'clock to 2 o'clock , if you just wildly whack it round a quarter or half a turn, you can go past increase and back into decrease as it just goes round and round.

Then test it, before you turn the diaphragm, put the screw back to factory setting first.

Nice one V8Jon and Davek0974,going to put me smoke screw back as was and try a "mini tweak" on drivewheel and also cone......bearing in mind what you said above...comeback to the smoke screw if needed-cheers guys

Ive got the early auto without the edc . So far Ive just tried turning the smoke screw one full turn, its certainly made a difference pulling away. Im quite happy with the performance in general but it would be nice to have more power when towing my caravan on the hills. Think Ill turn the screw back and try and mess with the other bits.:crazy_driver:

You will likely just be able to tweak the diaphragm a little and then fine tune the screw to finish.

Just done this the 110... Smokes abit when you boot it, but by **** does it go! Really need a 1.2 Transferbox now though..

Thanks for putting this up, only took 5 minutes with a flat screw driver and a torx bit :D

It's awesome isn't it? Mine is like a different vehicle now, would love to see exactly how much more power/torque it's actually putting out. My guess would be at least 25% more than before, if not more.

Did mine today what a difference its made. Goes like **** now, turned star wheel 180 degrees and same 2 the diaphragm. Might turn diaphragm back 90 degrees as I think it was quicker at just 90 degrees. But yeah it goes like a train now

Try taking it back some because if you go too far it backs it off again, between 90/120 degrees from it's original position.

Makes a staggering difference doesn't it,I'm well happy with mine now,and once you've stopped driving everywhere at 90mph(cos you can now!) you should be getting better mpg, I'm saving a fiver a week in diesel since the tweek :D

tweek the boost!

i'll go better and use less fuel due to the turbo working harder, not the engine

Which is the boost? I'm amazed how quick it picks up now. Floored it after doing it yesterday and before I knew it I wa doing 65. Did 90mph easily

To get more boost you have to mess with the wastegate on the turbo but on a 300tdi it's a right pain to get to.I was gonna do mine but the extra power from doing the pump mod is enough for me. If I want to go silly I just go out in the V8!

I have been told thatthe 300tdi won't appreciate more than 1bar of boost, the 200tdi could be lifted to 1bar but that's about it. It's not a sports lump after all.

ok, now im upset again readin that evryones gettin 90mph. In a mornin i can fly to 40 but struggle to 60 (revvin 3k in 4th), goes better after a run but sill takes its time goin past 70. Any suggestions?

I noticed earlier you said you'd enjoy tackling hills in 4th? You shouldn't have to drop down at all (unless you're towing or are very heavily loaded) if it's running properly.

When new, these vehicles had a maximum speed of 82mph, so not sure where people are getting 90 from, either they have modified gearing or have dodgy speedos. My 110 with a 200 will pull to 80, but only just.

cheers Langers, makes me feel a bit better :D. Looks like i'll have to investigate some more. it used to be hills in 3rd, every hill every time. Looks like its improved a bit, could pump be knackered at all? Does idle rough for a few mins in mornins. Changed lift pump, filter n emptied sedimenter

Try flushing out the intercooler with white spirit or similar, and make sure the fins are in good condition with no mud caked in them etc.
You could also fit a boost gauge to make sure the turbo is boosting properly at the right revs.

How many miles has it done? Does it breathe heavily?
