thanks mate , i think its coming along now,

im the same, i cant wait to see how good i can get it to look as a finished car :)

i admire your dexterity mate im almost insanely jealous as i have not yet either found my old series nor been able to convince the missus to let me take on such a project

just a little pointer itll never be finnished its a series there will always be something to tinker with or a modification to try thats what these vehicles are rolling projects

im following with intent to see the outcome of this beast just dont get hasty and rush the thing youve gone too far and done far too well to spoil it now

keep up the good work matey and youll soon have a life long companion :D

haha yes i know , ive already got a list of things to do when its built :)

and yes, im not getting rid of this one, not after this :)

had a good few hours on the landy today

got the clutch slave cylinder and its pipe work in :)

painted up the bottom dash with anti corrosive paint and fitted it :)

then put the wiring loom in , scary as there are lots of old broken wires but i suppose eventually it will get there

and of course some more pics : (sorry about the focus, the light in the workshop was terrible this evening)

ive had a few problems with the tunnel arrangement , on the old bulkhead there was the wide part of the tunnel welded onto the bulkhead , the new bulkhead has a screw on one , so i was going to cut it out of the old bulkhead and screw it on , but the luckiest find ever today, whilst looking for a wiring harness to go the rear end , i found this one that came off of a military 109 we broke a few years ago , how lucky is that! never even knew we had it, so does anyone know anything about this, i mean is it just militaries that have the screw on panel? one chap that has seen it thought it was a v8 one but i dont think so because everything else is the same , confused me a bit

any ideas on this would be much appreciated because i would like to find out when and why they changed them :)

anyway i will keep working and keep you updated

havnt done much the last few days ,

ive put on some more brake pipes so that is coming along and soon will be bleeding the systems through

ive managed to get some primer on some bits,
so ive put the galv primer on the bulkhead , with a brush and really pleased with the finish

ive also had my first go at spraying with an aerosol on an important part, and all i can say is im not very good at it , ive done the new hinges and its been a bit of a pain to say the least , i put an anti corrosive primer on and then the top coat put the top coat just cracked up , so i sanded them back down and put on a layer of high build primer , this also then cracked , so ive just kept on sanding and putting another coat on but it is still cracking when its drying , the photo is after 2 coats, they have had another 2 since then , they are getting better but still not ready for the top coat,

just wondering if anyone has some tips on this? i know the very basics but the trouble is i dont know anyone thats has got anymore of an idea about it than i do, any tips would be much appreciated

so some pics of some paint drying ;)

looks to me like its too cold in that place for aerosol primer so heres what i did yesterday with a set of alloy wheels and it works

use an old hairdryer and build the primer up in verry fine layers blowing it dry with the hairdryer as you go just dont put the paint on too thick at once

if you do this method youll see the primer drying fast such as it normally goes on light grey then darkens and dulls as it dries

a verry old geezer told me of this method and ive done some real good projects with amazing results these sort of tips are things you cant find in any manuals theyre learned from experience in the school of hard knocks

:5biagree:
I use a heat gun if i want to speed up the drying process and to prevent the chance of sagging. Works a treat and means you don't have to wait all day for parts to dry

thanks for the tip , i have been working right next to a garage heater , but as you say it probably isnt getting warm enough, and i have managed to choose the worst month ever to do the painting , but oh well
so i will give that idea go

and again thanks for the advice :)

so a bit more progress in the last few days

got a few more brake pipes on just got the last one which is shaped to go on , then i can bleed the clutch and brake systems up

eventually managed to get the hinges flat and nice with the primer so they have had a few layers of the top coat

have also sanded down and primed the bulkhead with the high build primer , so a bit more sanding and i can put my actual colour on it!! finally!!! :)

since the last post ive put the top coat onto the vent panels and put the door hinges onto the bulkhead

im really pleased at how well ive managed to get the paint so far , especially as im doing it with a brush

i expect this is the point were everyone complains about what the hell im doing painting it that colour ;) :D
but oh well i like it :D

will keep you posted as always

is that royal blue youve used there matey looks a real nice depth to it

ive always wanted to know what a series 3 would look like that shade so now im really watching with intent

did a ford cortina cruisader the same shade blue a few years back looked cool as fook when id done it

keep them pics comeing

oh by the way use the cheap little gloss roller sets from b&q for the larger pannels its a lot quicker and youll be surprised at the finish youll achieve with them

i got it from smith and allan , who call it "cobalt blue" but yes a nice deep blue , i love the colour :)

ive heard talk of these gloss rollers before but when you say gloss roller, this may be a stupid question, but i take it thats the difference between the foam and the "fluffy" rollers? i dont have a clue :D

the fluffy ones are for emulsion ( crap for doing anything like top coat )

the foam ones are for gloss ( the ones you get a good finish with )

ok thanks , the things you learn with land rovers!

so i will grab some of them then, to make my life just a little bit easier :D

right well,
sunday evening i managed to do a bit of wiring, so some progress on that, but as im sure everyone on here knows its slow going, as im checking every system to make sure everything works as it should

ive then rubbed down the drivers side wing and primed it

ive also started to service the wiper motor system as it is all very tight and rusty
