Hey, so i'm thinking about getting stuff to recon the final drive units, could someone please list all bearings, shims, oil seals and stuff i would need? a part number with it would also be greatly appreciated.

bearing in mind you cant necessarily say a diff or gear box etc havent been changed over the years, just check diff carrier cap bolts if its 18mm socket size its imperial and parts list as said ,if 19mm its metric and you change 41045 for rtc2726

Right, thanks very much. I'll have to check tomorrow, i think it was an 18 though. Again, thanks ;)

Also i noticed some shims fell out the diff carrier, or atleast shim like things fell out from behind the 2 side gears. I'm assuming they need replacing, what are they called?

applys to both diffs ,539706 and 539707 are pinion bearings 41045 diff carrier bearings, must be timken, the shims are thrust washers they come in 3 sizes, see how old ones are , if a lot of play measure them and get larger, they come as 40 thou (533786)45 thou(533787 and 50 thou,(533788)ideally you want diff gears to turn reasonably easy by your fingers but have no play, if original washers are good refit them

Right, thanks for everything.

Okay, planning to get the chassis under repair tomorrow. I have a plan to fix it.
Bottom of the chassis is rotten both sides, passed where the spring hangers are, X member is rotten.
Parts ordered:
Gearbox X member
Rear X member
2 new chassis outriggers
2 front chassis legs
2 new rear spring hangers.

Here's my plan to get the rear fixed:
Cut the X member off.
Cut U's in the bottoms of the chassis box section, create a flush repair using these pieces: (x2)
CAM01732_zpswn5kkdri.jpg

Desc: 2mm thick steel; U section; OD=8mm; L=40cm

Weld in the new U's,
Grind down where necessary, hopefully won't be necessary though,
Weld the new spring hangers on to the U in the appropriate place,
Weld on the new X member,
In the end, should have a nice, strong, neat repair. What do you think?

For the rest, should be pretty easy work, cut off and repair sort of stuff. Sound like a plan?

those are the only ones in the t/box, you can get shims to fit between them and the case to get intermediate gear endfloat correct, the washers either side of the g/box main shaft bush 3rd and 2nd run on come in 3 different thicknesses, but until you ensure either side of bush are the correct length for the endfloat for 3d and 2nd you wont know which will be needed to ensure bush hasnt too much endfloat in itself, the cone shaped washer on front layshaft gear is selectable too ,you need to fit l/s on its own and bell housing etc to determine you can feel if too tight ie washer to thick or if too small by looking at bearing through the rear holes and determining how much endloat there is
