It doesn't engage brake It locks transmission if it did you could drive it off with brake engaged. might squeal and smoke a bit mind. I suspect theres a slot in the drum or back plate that the lock engages thus actually locking the output shaft.

Be interesting to see what does engage. It needs be be locating and locking without having to find one position somewhere around the drum.

Some sort of toothed brake drum would do it??

Unless it somes with a new drive flange. either way fitting is gonna need to be done by someone who's spanner handy.
 
I've seen one in action, although I'm new to the Landy world I was well impressed, once it's fitted the only way to shift the vehicle is by lifting it .
It's another layer of security designed to slow a thief down,
 
What if the nuts holding the prop shaft were anti thief shear nuts. Wouldn't that help, be a pain when you need to change the prop but would work.

IF... you could get any to fit and then fitted them, I doubt if they would be strong enough to take the strain of acceleration and braking. Might be better to fit the correct bolts and nuts then use a slightly bigger ring spanner to wipe off the sharp corners of the hexagons on the nuts then smother them in grease so no spanner can grip them. But just as you said it would be a pain when you wanted to remove the prop yourself.

I suppose if you know you have rounded off the head and covered it in grease you could smash on a smaller socket when it comes to taking them out?

Seems like quite a good idea but possibly impractical to actually do?

I have bought a set of special sockets that remove stripped nuts and bolts from Machine Mart, they really do the job
 
there are so many ways to slow/stop the car thief..time is their enemy..

i can list a good few, but dont want to on here..

but most wont work if they are going to lift the car..so first thing IF poss is to not park it with tow reach..second if poss, ie you have a drive way is to install a proper ground anchor and chain..takes 20 secs to chain the car via chassis link to chain.(or if non landy manufactors tie down thingy on chassis)

the other things involve disabling car..these can be simple and cheap..but very effective for defenders,disco etc, espically not the latest..the latest NEED an obd LOCK!!!!
 
My new alarm has a proximity sensor which makes a horrible noise if you get within a few feet of the car. Pulled right up the drive only someone who shouldn't be there sets it off.
Twice I've had chavs up the drive way but the car sounded alerted the dogs and woke me up. 1st time I witnessed 4 lads walking away on the other side of the road, the other time was a pair running away.

Added this I have a modified and welded up disklok, pedallock and a few other layers that you can't see looking through the window. Nothing ive shared here can't be seen by looking in the window
I'm continually upgrading the security so hopefully i get to keep it.

Found mine was stolen overnight, reported it to the police at 11:45 and within half a hour the police had located it intact in a public car park three miles away from where I live. Mr skytag I salute you:D
 
I haven't read through all of these posts on here yet. One tip that I can provide is this.
The United Kingdom has now got many A.N.P.R. sites set up across the road network. If you regularly go 'Off Road', please clean your registration number plates when you get back onto tarmac! Even if you don't 'Off Road', keep them clean (and your lights). A.N.P.R. will read the reg. no. and if the vehicle has been reported stolen, will alert the local police with the time that the missing vehicle passed the A.N.P.R .camera's location.
If the plates can't be read, don't moan. Help the Coppers to help you!
