What security devices did you have fitted AT THE TIME YOUR LANDY WAS STOLEN?

I've just started a new job working away from home, and I have to park my Landy in a dodgy area at night, so I'm getting a bit paranoid (especially as there have been loads of reported thefts on Landywatch lately).

I realise that a multi-layered approach to security devices, might stop the scumbags or slow them down.

Anyway, I have a couple of questions about the X Eng kit..

Firstly the gear lever lock. Can the lock be removed by pulling it upwards such that the HI-LO knob comes off the lever?

And the Steering column lock. If the thief has a Master key, then they could still unlock it, and then tow/push the car away - right?

The resurgence of the choice of 'Krooklok' or 'Autolok' as a deterrent as it helps slow the thief down, while he hacks through layers of security and the alarm goes bonkers ...

Speaking of which ...

Put fuses on the indicator feeds please owners ...

OBD locks ... to stop those with laptops programming a spare key ... are expensive ...

a good Landy bodge is this:

Thanks for the idea Dippy. It's brilliantly simple, effective and cheap. Anyone can do this if they take the trouble to.

Has anyone seen the Rat trap device that is a lock that fits to the transfer box and is key operated, it was in last months LRO magazine.
Looks quite effective.

It is crap- just unbolt props

You won't bijou to be get far with the prop smacking around surely plus you would hear someone trying to drive it away.

Push it and tow it away- simplest way to keep it is box it in far away from street lifter reach

Like to see you unbolting props in the dark. Sixteen very tight bolts with nylock nuts and the ones that you can't get at properly because of the angles that the U/J's are resting at. You need to roll the vehicle a little way to bring those bolts round to where you can grip them.

Rubbish I had to drop the prop on the 110 with a caravan on the back on an hill. all ya need is a pair of short 14mm deep offset ring spanners. took me about 20minutes But it was dark.

So 20 minutes for one prop.... that's 40 minutes for two props. And did you not have to roll back a little to get to the awkward bolts ?

Nope didn't move it at all. had a the handbrake on the caravan and the wheels chocked.

So as a security device the rat trap works, what thief is going to spend 40 minutes involving two props in the dark and then have to push the Landy away. Result then

Would take them more than 40 minutes. They must be careful not to make noise with their tools. They stop working and prepare to run away every time a vehicle goes by or when the wind blows the nearby bushes. They are almost ****ting themselves at the slightest sound. Could be nearer an hour, and hopefully they will have a few bumps on their empty heads from the gearbox cross member that they can't see in the dark. If the chassis is painted black, then all the harder to see what they are doing.

Just had a look I could get that off in no time. Drop rear prop unbolt brake drum and remove. Rat trap is no more.
