Hi guys. Me again.
Mot due doon so been poking about under me 90 for rust and found this which i think after research is an outrigger. Rest of chassis seems sound apart from the big hole and dodgy repair in this place...

Question is is it a replace whole chassis job... or can it be repaired? Fearing the worst but hopfully you guys could advise me.

That looks very repairable. Outriggers can be replaced, but a good welder could repair that by plating.

Looking at your pic, the rest of the chassis could use cleaning, and a good application of paint and rustproofing and preventative compounds, or else you will be doing more of the same over the next few years.
 
Just an update. Had a specialist look at the outrigger and he poked fingers right through the side of it. So needs a new one welded on... he has it would take roughly ten hours at 60per hour. Does this sound a fair price?

The 10 hrs seem steep but there can be problems with rusted bolts and the like so he is covering himself I think.
Me? I would never pay that and would buy a MIG welder and have a go yourself and still have change leftover

Lol. Think i may get a quote from my indy garage also. Specialist said about lifting the bulkhead etc to get to it which takes time.
 
Ok so have had the local indy have a look..
If i supply the outrigger they can weld it on for 250. Or they said it can indeed be plated for 150.
Liked the sound of the specialist but.. 600+ is a bit too much me thinks as others have stated.
 
Hi just an update. Decided against the 10 hour welding, 60per hour + vat and + price of outrigger. Plus whatever else needed doing for mot.

Went for an indy garage. They took it for mot. Failed on obvious outrigger welding. Bush on one of the arms, headlight allignment ( i replaced sealed beams for wipac crystals and i messed em up), no hazard telltale, and no dash clock iluminations.
And it was all in at £400. Which i dont think is bad for an 85 ninety.

Next thing will be the advisary which is worn rear prop which they say is dangerous. But apparently they cant fail you for.

although I did not know that no dash clock illumination was a fail, you learn summin knew every day.

Rear prop, did they say what was wrong with it? If it's just a UJ, then they are cheap and not difficult to replace.

He Just said exessive play in rear prop. Not got the beast back yet. Or seen fail sheet. It failed yesterday and he is doing quoted works to get it through mot before friday. But im gonna sort out prop next week what evers wrong with it.

He said because speedo dont light up it was a fail. But ive had no dash clock illuminations since i got it with a years mot this time last year. Me thinks i brought it with a moody mot.
 
To be fair fella a car with those kinds of problems and lots of them says two things to an inspector, the first is you need to keep ontop of things more because those problems didnt all start on the way there and the next thing is its an expected fail so he will pull you on every little thing, hes going to be testing it again anyway.
 
See what you mean mate. Ive only kept cars for a year then scrapped em in the 11yrs since i passed. This is the first car i wanna keep . Brought it on a whim having not known anything or even driven a landy before lol. But love it now so trying to bring this beast up to best standard i can.
