lol............i've got a grinding/cutting disk shape in my index finger 2nd joint.

didn't go to the bone though, and remarkably, didn't bleed much or hurt .......... yet.

teach me not to wear gloves !

:(

ffs be careful. you've a long way to go yet :(

and wear glasses when grinding. too many people don't.
:screaming_bug_eye_f

oh, and while we're on safety related ****, with the amount of welding your gonna be doing, google arceye and its effects.

yes, I should have learned when I took the top of a nail off with a flap wheel last week.

but I do wear goggles.

will go and get some gloves tomorrow. :)

deffo wear glasses! and good ones that contact the skin properly.

always use the guard on the angle if you can.

you haven't mentioned about an auto shade helmet. if you don't have one, then get one. the 35quid specials on ebay are actually decent for a hobby welder.

cheap leather apron is useful, flow rate meter (even pea shooter) for the gas and a couple of clamps and welding arrow. lil led lamp you can use to increase the light, even for auto shade, can be handy underneath

Just got gloves from Wickes.

Already got auto darkening helmet from eBay. Ain't they brilliant!!

Raining here now, so I'll have a bit more welding practice in the garage.
If it dries up, I'll have a go at fabricating another plate.

Piccie to follow

if you are outside, then a bit of ply as a wind breaker can help

didn't do any playing with welding, but this hole ............

will be filled with this plate :)

when I'm confident I can do it.

gonna take a fair bit o time, to "let it all in", but kudos for the cutting to shape!:D

edit-
don't forget the hole for the scuttle drain!

lol.....no I hadn't forgotten.

was thinking of drilling it after the plate is fitted with 10mm hole , and then getting the Dremmell on it.

(was being half serious there anorl....;))

you deffo have it set to 1min and are running a gas mix? you shouldn't be finding it too hard to blow holes in 1.6. :)

the 1.6 I'm ok with, its the joining of the 1.2 to it, I need to practice with. but I'll get there.........practice, practice, practice etc

blimey ........ last post was April.

Update.....

finally got enough confidence to start welding on the Disco.

put this on today.......

the top r/h corner was crap. very thin and kept blowing holes, so I had to build up a lot of weld.

but, run over a bit with the grinder and a splash of 'Red'. looks not too bad.

will get some sealer on that tomorrow, and onto the next piece ........

oh, and drill hole for the water to run through... :(

nothing wrong with that mate
its all down to practice
I found once you can control blowing holes in thin ****y metal, welding to bits of good metal becomes a lot easier :)

update.......

my welding's getting worse.....mainly because I can't get in close enough to see what I'm welding !!!!

On the Footwell, I'm not getting full penetration in (lots of)places, would it be bad form to weld both sides of a butt weld.??

Yes, work from both sides if there is room. I like to do that where I can.

blimey......I still haven't finished this !!!!!

but nearly there .....

more piccies to post.

Question re - Indicator wire.

is there any reason why Landrover routed it outside the inner wing ??

see piccy

Can I just route it the same way as the Headlight / Sidelight wires ?? as I don't fancy drilling unnecessary holes in my nice new wing !!
