My front bulkhead on my 2001 TD5 is reaching the end of it's servicable life. Footwells, both door pillars and below windscreen all need repaired. If I pick up a good 2nd hand bulkhead (is there such a thing), would a bulkhead from a 200tdi or 300tdi do the job?
The bummer is I'm also thinking in a few years a galv. chassi s is going to be needed.

Yes, as the majority of the land rover bulkheads are the same roughly, i converted a td5 bulkhead to a 200tdi a few months back, to be honest with you its a lot easier to just keep an eye out on fleabay for a good td5 one then its just a straight swap rather than trying to fit all your parts onto an older one, which maybe rotten inside anyway

I was in a similar position last year. I wanted a nice respray, but didnt want to then have to replace the bulkhead/chassis later. So I bit the bullet and had a galv chassis swap (from Richards). I also bit a second bullet and had them fit a galv bulkhead at the same time.

Depends on how good your Defender is I suppose. I was the second owner of my 1996 110 and I knew the original owner so, knowing its history/condition it made sense for me.

Cheers chaps,
Got my eye on a TD5 bulkhead in good near the inlaws, and glavanisers want £150 to shot blast and galvy.
I'm going to end up with a galvy monster at this rate - winch bumper & tree sliders are done. Body cappings are hopefully coming off a 109. Maybe I should do the wheels:rolleyes:

Excuse my ignorance but does anyone know if a Series3 bulkhead is the same as a defender one?

To pick up an old thread, I got my fleabay bullkhead in near mint condition. It's been galvanised, T-Washed, primed, shutzed, painted - it's the dogs do dah's.
Over the last 2 1/2 weeks I've stripped it down and fitted the new bulkhead.
Wings have had dents removed & painted, windscreen & bonnet just painted & drying.
looking rather smart as new doors were done back in April.

HOWEVER -
turned the key and nothing. Charged the battery and she turns over but wont fire.
What I have noticed is:
Fuel pump can not be heard running. - I pressed the foot pedal5 times and it set off the alarm.
Glow plug light is not coming on.
Other warning lights that should be on, are on.
I can hear 1 relay click when key is turned to on position.
I need to fit an earth strap from chassis to drivers footwell. The nut it attaches to is galvanised into place, so need to make a new fitting.
I can't set my non factory immobiliser

Apart from going over every plug connection, can anyone point me toward a specific connection plug or relays?

She is a 2000 Td5

Bugger ... my td5 is a year 2000 .... rust is closing in on me. A 2001 which 'already' need a new bulkhead ??

Yep rust is a bugger.

I had a good look over all my plugs, connections of the ingnition switch fuses, relays etc. All seem solid.
The fac thatI can't set my alarm is a worry, and that if i leave the key in the ingition the alar goes off. I'm inlined to think it is my immobiliser giving me problems. However, when the immobiliser did work correctly I couldn't crank the engine instead the alarm would sound. It's not doing this now
************* electonics !

What can i do to diagnose the problem / bring it aqll back to life?

Armed with a Haynes Manual & multimeter I set to work and soon found that there was a lack of power at the main relay, power was getting to inertia switch but not coing out of it.
Luckily I had a spare inertia switch off the donor bulkhead and my landy has come back to life :D
