That head does not appear to even had the bosses to drill so I would guess it's a very early head.

An Omega or BMW engine with lug positions for the plastic manifold, but not drilled and tapped. As they never fitted the plastic manifold or planned to there would be no need for a dual standard. As land rover did intend to use the plastic manifold their engines would be specified supplied with all positions drilled and tapped for either/or use. It's not rocket science.

He is playing silly buggers Keith. The front six need repositioning by drilling and tapping. But you have to change all the studs because the ones for the plastic manifold are longer. He seems to think i came up the river on a bloody tea leaf.:D:D

Then will know that the later heads are not pre drilled for both as anyone fitted with plastic manifold will tell you ! And data 1996 won't be pre drilled as that's three years to early , just admit you are wrong the later heads have the three sets of studs positions to the left :):):)

Later heads (EGR) are not pre drilled because they don't need to be. Land rover don't buy engines one at a time they buy them by the thousand. So interim engines will have had pre drilled heads to allow change to EGR as required. Very early engines won't be drilled and tapped, but later 1996 engines will have been to allow for production in 1997 for introduction of EGR in 1998. Your Range rover was not made the day before it went on sale in the dealers window.

Waffle waffle tel that to data as he thinks they Re all pre drilled for both
Here is the later and you can see the first three are the opposite the the last ready for the plastic but no other holes are drilled :) yes was not born yesterday of course they are going to pre order , laugh

Don't know what you're on but either take more or stop taking them altogether. He said his 1996 P38 had pre-drilled and tapped holes. I have no reason to disbelieve that. A considerable amount of 2000 models will have been made in 1999 and 1999 models made in 1998 and so on and so forth. It is perfectly plausible that in early 1996 10,000 engines were ordered speced for use in 1997 and for production in 1997 of 1998 EGR cars. And some were used for later 1996 cars. Maybe intoduction of EGR was put back for some reason. I don't really know and it's really not worth arguing about.

If it wasnt worth arguing about why even dispute that the later plastic manifold would have to be Drilled/ tapped as I said earlier in my second post

I didn't dispute that modifications are needed to change the manifold you just went off on a tangent about it. Think you had better start taking in what is written instead of what you think is written.

Can't get to the 96 but here is the 2000MY.
defender300tdi's pic was too small to see any detail.
