I completely agree with you there Sean, this whole business of buying new every year or buying the latest 'whatever', is solely about making money for others and has nothing whatsoever to do with the environment.

But that's like saying that the high price of fuel at the pumps is all related to the price per barrel of oil - what utter cods wallop !!!!!

We all know we are being conned every day by the media, business, government etc - that's just part of this wonderful modern-day life that most of us lead !!!!

Me too Sean, me too. Big safe vehicle, equally as economical as a BM/Merc/Jag saloon, but a lot less pushy "I"m a rich bastid get out of my way".
 
We are presently discussing corporate vehicles, considering replacing Lexus 300 GS sports with Disco 3s (my preferred option). One of my colleagues has put forward an argument that Disco 3s are large and more obvious vehicles that could have a harmful reaction from clients whereas the present cars are more ‘normal’ looking and provide good comfortable transport. Have any forum members using Disco 3s for business experienced anti 4X4 reactions from clients?
What business are you in? Do clients regulary travel in/see your company vehicles?. Do you you honestly think that your clients are swayed by the car you drive(this may or may not be the case, depending on the clientle)?
 
This is the problem with the general public today, they believe all the shyte in the media. Oooh Land Rovers burn lots of fuel, OK they arn't the most economical, but neither are some other cars out there.
I hired a Renault Laguna this year on a trip to France, it used just as much fuel as my TD5 for gossake! I don't see the greenies campaigning to have them banned?
They take up more space and cause congestion, err no, the length and with of a Discovery is actually less than a Rover 75 mate, and a lot less than a Jaguar XJ, just 'cause it's taller doesn't cause jams.
I can carry 7 in the Disco 2, and regularly does, as it's cheaper than taking 2 cars.

Yes Biglad, I've got to agree, you can't knock the Japs on the build and reliability, something Land Rover could do a lesson in. But as you also said they lack soul (and my dirty hand prints all over it from repairing it) and are quite bland to drive.

As for clients reactions to a Discovery, depends on what business your in. I really can't say it would make much difference to me, probably the opposite to be honest as I have an interest in them. Like most others in here.

Hi Rob, I agree with all of the logical arguments that you put forward, but unfortunately The Disco Kid is more talking about potential "perceptions or prejudices" that his companys' business contacts might have and whilst we might think it a little silly to be bothered about such things, let me ask you this - have any of you bought home improvement products from salesmen in your home? And when you saw the Merc/BMW he/she drove, what did it make you think? Conman?, rich bastid?, that's where all my money is going?, he's doing too well? - anything like that??

These are negative perceptions that all good businesses try to plan to avoid.

My old mans " S " reg Vectra auto petrol he poodles around in gets 26 ish to the gallon !!. ( I wonder what other auto vehicle you could get that sort of MPG out off !!!!!!!!!!!!!! ).

My last VW T5 Transporter only did about 28 mpg if I drove it steady. My TD 5 gets 30 all day long !!.

Disco 3 is a smart vehicle, but if it was me looking to invest in a company fleet, my biggest concern about the D3 would be reliability not customer perception !.

Kerb weight for the TDV6 is 2718kg that includes a full tank of fuel and the driver (75kg) so with a GVW of 3500kg that leaves 782kg shared between 4 passengers each one would have to weigh 195.5kg or 431lb or 30st 10lb thats 4 Sirus's.
