well went and picked up a soft top back for the tub today from a nice chap down in oxford way. He had a tidy td5 double cab. It looked very nice (but i couldnt say this of course!)

Well just been to fit it and... arse...

the conversion someone has done to make it a double cab is ... not the same size as a double cab!!! its about 2" too long in the body. So fook it... if a jobs worth doing lets at least do it right!

So its to become a proper double cab!!!

However I am NOT going to just buy loads of double cab bits as the price of them is just fecking stupid. So i will basically measure up a double cab and fab my own!! I will use county rear doors etc and make sure the tub is the same size, so that way in the future all double cab bits will fit it. I can also pherhaps make use of the space available a little better than i would if i were to do it with genuine bits.

So i need a spare truck cab and a 90 roof. I think a safari roofed double cab might be kind of cool?

For some of the panel work i will use a mixture of fibreglass panels and i think i may introduce some carbon fibre in some bits :) if nothing else because i love the stuff!

So anyway, in the wind and the rain tonight i battered on and kind of half bodged on the roll hoops from the double cab as it meant that i didnt have to store them in the house and get a proper mouth raping from my mrs :)

just ordered a snorkel so i can get rid of that ****e piece of drain pipe!
 
i could, but in the long run it means that lots of other items wont fit. so i want to do it properly. I hate bodges!

The "conversion" thats been done looks properly ****e at the back anyway.

Lots of work, but itll be worth it in the long run. Im desperate to have a "keeper" car as im forever changing. I want to make something my own :)
 
Are the rear side panels inter changeable if so and there going spare ill have them off ya hate my landys rear windows on my 90
 
they arent standard 90 panels, they are shorter and wont fit im afraid. Theyre part of the "cut n shut" job done by a previous owner.
 
right well i need a lift kit for it, now im not sure which to go for to be honest. Im thinking x-eng sockets for a 5" lift, double shocks allround to give the suspension an easier time when carrying the motorbikes on the back, maybe x eng extending spring things (cant remember the name) coupled with the xeng disconnect anti roll bars, +3" springs with 2" spacer blocks and finally double cardon props.

Never done any work on landy suspension so any comments on the above would be welcome. I want it to be right! Also has to be done in stages as I cant afford to have it off the road for ages whilst the suspension gets done. Its also due an mot in 2 months so i need to get the suspension initially lifted to make sure the wheels all clear etc.

Im thinking of the following installation program:-

a) +3" springs & double shock mounts with extended single shocks (remote reservoir) with a double cardon front prop & brake lines and bump stops

b) Fit extra shocks and spacer blocks ith the xeng ball socket arms etc

c) xeng anti roll bar and the extension springs

This is what I "think" i should do... but any suggestions are welcome.
 
Another post has just reminded me that i need a fan! Theres no fan at all on the vehicle at the moment so need to get one installed incase i get stuck in traffic etc. I know i have a couple of new curved blade ones left over from my l200 conversion so i can whack them in, then i think couple that with an x eng dual fan control switch?

If it has sold though im not too fussed, i quite like the idea of doing it all myself. Kind of rewarding :) and i like making things myself as i can do fancy ****e with it ;)
 
im just about to order all the metal to make some 'chunkeh' rock sliders with side steps - the ones on ebay i like from darlington are quite nice but i really want 3" tube, and ive been asked to make a roll cage for someone from 3" so i can order it all at the same time and save some pennies.

i might make you some tree sliders if you want kipper...
 
Also been looking for a spare wheel carrier for the back.

After a forum member showed me his carrier from an old superdream swingarm, which looked really good i have been thinking more about it. I have lots of swingarms from various bikes lying around, specifically a nice one of a kxf450 which i think would look really cool on the back. So im going to use that! Saves paying £150 for something off the ebay and its unique :)
 
Took the 110 to work today, in the sea of bimmers and audis the 110 stands out like a sore thumb! My colleages could only say WTF
