Can't tell you just how much I hate that setup on the 200Tdi. Has to be the one thing that whoever that was in charge of designing this excellent engine had a brain fart on.
Attempt to power anything that draws anything above average amps and the alternators start eating those small belts for breakfast.

Don't know if its something you would want to consider, but electric power steering pumps from say an old saxo work a treat....they only work when required and don't really require any special modifications aside probably having your hoses extended.
And should they fail, doesn't take out your water pump drive.
Next course of action then would be to machine a hub with the stock PAS drive pulley to bolt to the back plate that held the pump, retaining your existing belt and tensioning setup.

Too much?
I have a workshop with all the toys and weekends can get boring sometimes.:D

One of the reasons I fitted my second alternator, it has a heavier duty drive belt direct off the crank pulley.

I did think about electric after seeing how good the Peugeot system was on my old 307.

I don't mind those so much, what annoys the Hell out of me is someone who's kicked in the door of a nearby portakabin, found a tin of spray paint and then come and tagged the offside front wing.

Thanks for the advice. I shall do that. What put me off doing that was the prospect of posting into the void, with me the only follower of the thread.

Wasn’t a dig at all mate, just know your doing the same stuff that we are all doing so definitely worth keeping a log of it all.
We all love a resto project and you’ll get advice from here like I have from people who have done the job in had 10 times over.
We will follow and certainly be able to share.

Not at all. I am happy to be put right when I've inadvertently infringed good manners on this site. My experience of setting up a new thread to discuss how to weld went nowhere, so my expectations were low. But you've now told me how to bring such a tread to the attention of others, for that I'm grateful.
 
Well, it's not moved in months, not even bothered to try starting it since it was hastily replaced with a Ford Maverick after blowing up the gearboxes, really need to speak to James about my gearboxes but life and work are getting in the way perpetually.

Life, work, lock downs and lack of a Land Rover (could mention the far leftism of the forum too :rolleyes:) means I don't have as much time as I once had and nothing much to say, good job I skipped the BLM garbage, I have strong views that don't align with anti British international communists ;)
