Hi Dieseldog69, That box section which you're using to replace your sill. What would be its specificiations?
120x60x3.6mm I bought two 1.5m lengths that will do both sides and body mounts came from YRM for ease of fitting (and because I'm being lazy and not making own ;))

Your box will be vehicle specific mate. He's done a few and I think they've all varied in size. You got to measure up and get your box from there
Typical LR build tolerances and the inner sill widths vary from 55mm to 65mm on the various ones I've attacked in the past :eek:

I had to weld in packing plates to fill the gap between the box and the body mounts as this one had 57mm spacings and I wanted to leave a bit of the original inner sill to weld to for a change.
 
Well I finally found time to go outside and poke it with the angry stick.

patched the hole I made in the foot well.

And cut out the rest of the boot floor and the drivers side side panel.

Strange to see it all cut out again but needs must an all that :(

Chassis is in remarkable condition considering it's age :)

If there was one piece of advice I could give, it would be to disconnect that rear brake line first before you start trying to heave out the bloomin boot floor :oops: I was heaving and hoing and it wouldn't come loose and all of a sudden it dawned on me, there might just be something stopping it, quick chop chop and away it came :)

Going to spend a few nights cleaning the chassis with a wire brush and give it a coat of the Aquasteel rust converter and a couple of coats of the Bonda rust primer once it has cured fully.
 
Oooo right.

I thought it was one of them magnetic tray things for putting all yer nuts and bolts in as you strip things out.

Oh no, not that luxurious around here, besides, I like to lose stuff like that an then spend hours swearing and huffing and puffing about losing them LOL :)

An enormous lack of progress today and I went out there with such great expectations :(

But I did get wet, covered myself in paint, pizzed off my neighbours and spent far too long looking for stuff that I thought was somewhere other than it was, fighting with a compressor and basically not getting much done :mad::mad::mad:

I know, plank that I am, I forgot to take any pics of it all painted over with the rust proof primer :oops: :rolleyes:

I wanted to get the side panels keyed for first coat of primer, started out with a Scotchbrite pad but ended up with some 120 grit sand paper.

Very happy with the primer, also managed to get the wheel tub painted on the inside too.

I didn't get the welder out, but once I had got some paint on panels it decided to lash it down with rain and basically my day has been ruined from there :(

Really going to have to get out and do a lot more painting and stuff in the evenings and doing stuff like drilling out the spot welds and such or it'll never be ready for MOT day on the 8th December.

Trying to get as much of the underside of all these panels painted and prepped prior to fitting :)

Been thinking long and hard about my ambition to make the boot floor removable, is it a practical idea? Still deliberating as I have not yet settled on the manner of fixing yet.
 
Super busy day but I've misplaced my camera :oops:

I chopped out a bit more of the rear body cross member to fit the side panels, I found a hole and have decided that the boot floor side panels will be just tacked in place to make removal in the very near future easy, not until summer though as I want to drive it again before Christmas LOLZ.

I've drilled both the wheel tubs and spot welded them to their respective side panels. As I am working on the LH side of the truck I've been trying to fettle the rear quarter to fit the new wheel tub and so that the side panel all lines up.

Lots of time with the flappy wheel adjusting the rear quarter for the new wheel tub, I'll get some 8mm round bar to bend and weld in over the wheel tub, I keep looking at that C post welded onto the wheel tub and can't really see this being a high strength part of the shell and feel I should beef that up quite a bit more as I have the new mounts for the A and B posts, Maybe I should get some 10mm square section in stead of the 8mm now I am thinking about it?

Still undecided about the boot floor plans, really need to settle on a plan before I weld in the support cross members.

I am also looking at the boot floor and I also think I might beef up supports over the top of the diesel tank, just thinking about the potential for heavy, bulky and awkward loads being put in the back, not to mention the possibility that I might be looking to put packs of bricks in there too ;)

I am super busy this week every night so won't have time to get piccies but when I find the camera I will try for next week :)
 
I've been thinking same with boot floor supports as already have to make some up. Also going to chop up some sign frames and run inch box down inside before the ply like you mentioned.
Aquasteel stuff looks cosmic in that flash picture lol.

Did you go for adrenaline relocation cones? You'll need a dog leg spanner if so ;)

The aquasteel goes on like skimmed milk and turns bluey black as it reacts with the rust, so far I'm quite pleased with it.

I love re-purposing stuff like them old sign frames, the box is good, angle is quite good too :) I used to love the older signs that were solid ally but the newer composite ones are worthless down the scrappy :(

The cones went on well easy, little light lever action with a pry bar and there is plenty of access :D

Looks like I will be fitting a new rear body cross member soon, gonna spit a patch over the hole and cheat the MOT this year and wait for the summer and do it all properly, I know I'm already 1/2 way there with so much cut out but baby is due in weeks now not months so I am struggling with justifying the cost of the cross member so close to the mandatory Christmas week off too :(

I've got an ally bulkhead that came out of my Disco up for grabs if you want it? Can put your name on it an collect it when your done, be a ride out an you can bring your dog for a run on the beach ;)

Mate, you used to put your advance signage out on a job and by the time you'd circled back round the plate was gone lol. P.s. all the big stuffs still plate but there are cameras everywhere lol. After you mentioned it I drove up to the yard and it clicked. It's perfect for the job. Also using a rigid frame to make my new tank cradle bracket. Going to bevel edges down to 3mm. It looks perfect size but haven't measured.
