Although admittedly i knew bugger all about the sunroof leaking issue when i did buy it. Actually to tell ya the truth i knew bugger all about discoverys in general apart from the boot floor issue.:eek:

Still...... Ya live and learn! :D

And yep im on nights, well 12 hour nights. So will only get a few hours in the afternoon to tinker. :(
 
Killer mate, im on nights too. Leave my house at 3.30pm then get home about 6am. Sleep till 2pm get up eat and shower then its time to go back to work lol
 
Hello again chaps. Finally have an update for you.

Progress is slow at the moment as im also trying to sort out my divorce so funds are slightly short :( plus workin 12 hour shifts 5 days a week is also hindering time to work on it.

Anyway on with what i have been up to when i get a chance.

The V8 chassis is now black. :D had a day off this week and the weather was gorgeous so got on and painted it.

Has now had 2 coats so is now ready to start putting bits back on. :) The plan is take off the axles from the other chassis and temporarily fit them to this one until the other axles are rebuilt.
Then plonk the body on top once the other sill is finished.

Speaking off sills whilst waiting for paint to dry I made a start on the o/s sill.
It was definitely easier second time round once i knew what i was doing:p You can see in the first pic this side has been bodged up at some point with a piece of bodywork from another coloured car just like the other side. :eek:
And i also had to cut out a fair chunk of the floor.

Also cut out the bit in the last pic under the rachet handle as that bit had rotted anorl.

New sill has been plug welded in place just needs seam welding and then painting and its done.

Once the sill is sorted it will be time to lift off the body as i know the will be strong enough then to take the weight. As im putting straps through the tunnel round the sills and lifting it off with my engine crane.

Another thing i managed to get done at long last was this.

Will be looking at getting a smaller heater unit to fit as that one is huge! :eek:will make fitting new switches wiring in etc easier.

Oh and then i painted it as ive always hated the grey interior.

I reckon it looks quite smart. And now the rest of the grey interior will be done to match:D

And ive been reading your megasquirt thread. I think ive read it all the way through 2 or 3 times now ;) and im probably gonna refer to it often when i finally get round to installing my megasquirt kit as well as asking you countless amounts of stupid questions :eek: wiring is not my strong point :p
 
Another update. :D

Not a huge one but nonetheless an update.

So started off this afternoon by seam welding the o/s sill in followed by grinding back the welds then seam sealing. Didnt bother with pictures as youve already seen one side and plus i wanted to get on with the next job.



Lifting the body off:eek:

First up i removed all the body mount bolts and then got the engine crane and lifting straps into position.

Next i started to slowly jack it up to make sure nothing else was attached to the chassis and there was i forgot about the rear brake line so snipped that off.

Then carried on jacking her up with the help of my little bro keeping the back end up. And pulled the body clear of the chassis.

Then it was simply a case of rolling the chassis out of the way and putting the body on axle stands where the whole thing was originally stood.

Next job for today was removing the axles to temporarily fit to the V8 chassis.

By the time it got to doing the front axle it was already getting dark so had to rush so sorry if the pictures aren't that great.

And that's as far as i got and called it a day as i couldn't see bugger all :( otherwise id probably still be out there now:D

Oh yea makes this job so much simpler. Although its kinda worrying theres only 12 bolts holding the whole thing on:p Must be safe though i guess.

Im hoping to get a heat gun of some kind in the next week or 2 so i can get under the body whilst its on stands and strip all the crap flakey black stonechip stuff off the underside and redo it. Should be a fun dirty job......... Not! Haha :rolleyes:

Its easy lifting it off go for it:)

Im gonna be fitting the axles that came off the v8 chassis when i get round to rebuilding them with ashcroft internals.
 
The body is on the v8 chassis. :p

Will have some more pictures to come in the coming days. I got a little carried away talking to my mate about his ford cortina and forgot to take more pics. :doh:

Just need to get on now and sort out the inner wings, o/s inner qaurter, o/s rear arch, rear crossmember, welding in the sunroofs, weld up alpine windows, and then get some chequer plate for the boot floor and the body is sorted. :eek:
That list seems a lot longer when you type it out. :(

Still im really shocked at how easy it is to remove the body and put it back on. As long as youve got a helping hand to hold the back end up/keep it level its a piece of cake. :D Seriously if you thinking about lifting your own body off do it! :)
 
I'm looking forward to seeing pics of the sunroof and alpine windows being welded. I'm about to purchase a welder to sort my rot box out and the sunroofs and alpine windows are on my to do list as well. P.s it will be my first welding project and I will be learning along the way.
