My main issue with the std diesel engine and motorway use is you will spend all your journey hanging around the hgvs, and down the south east that means a lot of lhd hgvs, add in winters coming, dark to and from work, need I say any more!Regarding the 110, I've got someone looking at it next week and another interested. I'll send you the details later as its had a lot of work done since I bought it back in 2020.

As I said about the 200 tdi, it just needs the odd oil top out and an alternator retention every now and again. Is the 2.25 any more maintenance heavy or just the odd adjustment? Performance can come later after maybe changing or refurbing the injectors, replacing the rad and so on.

A 2286cc diesel needs less maintenance that a Tdi, because it doesn't have a timing belt. It will respond the same as any other engine to the same kinds of tuning. Agreed, I’m planning to buy a new loom from autosparks with some extras.And price a new loom, might be cheaper. And more reliable.
I have added mods on mine over the years, and it I was doing it again I would have a separate fuse panel for anything add on, with one large relay providing power for add on stuff, so if you get any issues you can just flick the relay power off and keep on driving.Agreed, I’m planning to buy a new loom from autosparks with some extras.
Sorry to jump on your thread, and I know everyone has an opinion but I need to ask this question, Why is a TDi seemingly quite acceptable in a Defender but too noisy and harsh to use in a Series? Is a Defender so radically different from a series in construction? It is something that puzzles me.How many miles are you doing? A diesel 109 will be a long way off a Tdi 110 CSW in terms of comfort and refinement. As for speed, no chance! Not with the diesel. The petrol will cruise at 55-60mph, but any quicker and you are thrashing it. Don't think the diesel will be anywhere close to wanting to run at 60mph.
Tdi is an option, but tbh they are even less refined are really quite noisy in a Series. Way more so than in a Defender.
Not saying you shouldn't do this, but commuting in a 109 over any distance daily is pretty hardcore.
No they aren't radically different. But having had both and my brother also having a Tdi 90 at the same time I had a a Tdi 88, there was a distinct difference. A factory Tdi 90 is also generally better than converted ones.
