Dse 2.5 2002. Old problem now so bad have to pour water on block or no chance. I know of the quick fix, but now also bummer to start cold, and half second lag pulling away. Do I actually now need a new injector pump? Live in Uganda, here for RWC, are there recon injector pumps I can take back?

Hot start issues are to do with chain stretch not generally the pump....

Pumps can be reset to take up the slack in the chain, but overtime the chains stretch further meaning the pump adjustment will soon run out.

To sort correctly, either retime pump, or replace the chains!

@wammers knows more than most on the DSE engine, so he would be best to advise, but I would suggest getting another pump would be false economy.

Don't like the sound of problems starting cold. Diagnostics might help but doubt many members in Uganda.

Lift pump working? Any air in fuel line? Leak off pipes perished? Diagnostics might help.

You can get refurbished FIP from Diesel Jones in Manchester. Island 4x4 in Kent probably cheapest for timing chains and sprockets.

Chain stretch AND worn pumps are both causes of poor starting and problems with timing modulation on diesel P38's. The hot fix kit works well, done loads as most people wont spend the £600 odd quid for a decent pump rebuild.Probably glows for your cold start issue. Try - http://www.darwendiesels.com/ for a pump, they have a good reputation here, plenty of other LR independents I know of that use and trust them.
