It’s all just getting exiting and I’m back to work again tomorrow :(

Woohooo. It’s Wednesday.

Small update. Tomorrow I will mostly be incredible. :D

Finally finished the second stabiliser today so back to bashin. I just hope there are enough breaks in the rain as I need to pull the trailer outside to offer the 2nd 8 foot skirt up to the front for measurin and stuff.:)

Who the hell talked me into angling the bed up at the back

it was all going so well until I started the sill on the sides

Any road up, I’m ploughing on  let’s face it, if your too thick for the building trade they send you to tin bashing school

While collecting ancillaries and digging through old buckets in mi sheds for lighting and stuff I became perplexed by my unnecessary need for a high level brake light.
I want one but hate the modern LED offerings that won’t match never mind be sympathetic to the glass domed Lucas offerings.
I’ve decided as a pleasant diversion to convert a pork pie for my needs.
Naturally my ten quid D lamp is a little unloved so I began a touch of electrolysis today to at least get down to something approaching metal. I will have to convert it from stop and tail to a single lens but as we all know, it can’t be hard

we won’t be needin the lighty downy bit for a number plate either so that’ll av to go.
the number plate and light will be a whole other story

Serious question Bob, what voltage do you use? I have acquired a small adjustable power supply to have a go at electrolysis my self.
I had thought to keep it at 12 volts and limit the current to an amp or so?

Ain’t a clue. I just kept turning it up until the house fuse blew then knocked it down a notch. :D
I think plating is more complex As you have to calculate surface area etc. For rust removal just use an old phone charger and make sure the negative goes on the workpiece. Think mine is a six volt but only a couple of amps.
Two hours and it’s done. I knew there was real mecul under there :)

Will put the wire wheel over it tomorrow, give it a squirt of etch primer then start rebuilding the missing bits of backplate.
I must try and get the hinge pin out first:(
I can beat the dents out of the cover then and remove the crossbar ready for this bad boy.

Hinge pin out, wheeled and Fertan soaked then a squirt of etch primer.

Cover dechromed, beaten to remove dink and cross bar removed so the lens will fit.

I am trying some liquid weld to build up the missing steel then will fill and rub back several times until something acceptable is achieved.

Ain’t got a stop light bulb holder and ran out of bothered with the original one as it was a bit shot so I found a couple of self adhesive red LED strips in one of my buckets and wound them round the walls inside the pie of pork. A damn site easier and less drain on the car. I’ll have to test them to see if they provide enough illumination during day time. If not I can revisit them once I have bodywork to actually hang it off.
