Shoes? Shoes are what you reline drum brakes with. Don't you mean "boots"?
 
"Drum Brakes" o_O If this was 1975 and this was Austin Elegro id be inclined to agree with you ;) Shoes will suffice :p
It's a Disco 2, you have a drum brake on it. Unless somebody has managed to install an aftermarket disc brake system.
The rear prop shaft connects to it on the T-box end. It's the handbrake.
 
Nice! brings them out just nicely too.
What's with all that blue tape?
When I first bought the motor there was a few raps of purple strapping around the bottom of the Hippy Nudger ;) I have since removed said strapping but, there was an amount of scoring left behind so I have put some handle bar tape I had in the shed in its place! There is also some rust/damage on the edges which it covers until I get around/can be arsed to fixing so thought id get 'creative' o_O
