Ok I got this fairly nice Range Rover Classic for free, she has been sitting out in the paddock for the last 12 odd years. Being a avid Land Rover fan I saw the opportunity to rebuild to my specs and needs and use her to tour the whole of Australia. She is a 01/1986 build 3.5EFI four door, automatic.

Here are some photos and I have started some stripping and cleaning. I will post the pictures very soon, there is a few already in my introduction thread, if you want to have a sneak peak, the photos I am going to use in this thread will be exactly in the sequence as the events have taken place and then as I carry on I will keep on updating.
See you soon..........😍💋❤

Ok......for some super un explainable reason I can not find the photo's I took when I went and collected the Rangy, that makes me sad because it would give you a better idea what I started with.................
So if it turns up some how later during my rebuild I will just add it........
The first photo's here are already after a major engine and chassis wash.

Chassis Looks in good nick, as do the front brake pipes...

There is something about the look and shape of the Classic that is just so appealing, a real class act, and a sorted Classic is still a head turner.

Watching this (plus Stutab, Zen and Will2008's) threads with zeal - the more Classics that can be saved the better IMHO.

This is part of my strip down.....................
and another attempt to at the cleaning of the chassis and engine bay to prepare for the new parts that are on their way from the UK.

Good luck my friend, I'm glad that you are intending to 'save' the old girl, just don't under-estimate the amount of work & expense involved & accept that you will never re-coupe it in a future sale - it has to be a labour of love. Mine is the following model year to yours (built June '87) & I was fortunate to get it in original condition with only 2 owners as I have neither the skills or facilities for a restro project. Classics built prior to the intro. of the Disco in '89 used a better quality of steel (never confirmed/denied by LR) so hopefully any rot won't be TOO serious.

I could not find any rust or rot anywhere, and not talking of surface rust, the only and worst part is the area where the battery was and I promise you if it was any other vehicle that part of the whole body would be gone by now.

I did and will never ever put a telly on this rebuild, my blood is green and have no intention to ever sell her, she is beautiful, and when she is done it will be my holiday and travel vehicle, wait till you guys see what I have in mind with her.

Great stuff - though it seems very odd to see one in an unrestored state but with no rust!

I am looking forward to following this thread - good luck!

Pete

Mine ('87) fits that description Pete but there & again it was garaged for most of it's 21 years prior to my ownership. Shame I've no garage but it's been fully Waxoyled & I do put a cover on it as it's not a daily driver.

Some mixed emotions.............I deem myself lucky as I think this Rangy has actually found me......
For all the Classic owners of the same era out there I made a small modification today to the tensioner pulley's of the A/C and the water pump will finish it off tomorrow and post photo's..............easy mod and it looks sexy.....

You lucky so&so.
What a wonderful project. Good luck mate, just don't alter the outward appearance too much, there's 'something' about a classic Rangie that still turns heads.

There are some things I am going to change and make work for me and what I need the vehicle to be comfortably capable of. The rest will stay the same to prove the autxhantisety.

Now for those that were wondering what I have done with my tensioners..........the moment is here.........the first photo is all the components cleaned, and powder coated.......the second is the mod........third and fourth is complete assembly ready for many years of service.....lol

Yes I am inland, this Rangy has seen Oz about four times over and her home was and still is Canberra since the day she was bought. I am the second owner of this Rangy, took ownership of her in December 2012.

Wooohoooo I have received some of my goodies, one of the things I was waiting for was a new vacume advance unit for my distributor...........I could not wait any longer and quickly assembled it this morning.
