Well it's nearly all done - just waiting for the cheque to cover my expenses.
Tips (most of which are contained in the previous ten pages):
1. Remember that you and your insurance company are in a legally binding agreement - they have to do the right thing by you.
2. Talk to people in authority - this may take time so be patient and keep your cool. Ask to speak to people who have the authority to negotiate.
3. Establish which companies are involved, ie brokers, under writers, management centre, driver assist and, if need be, the third party's insurance company. Speak only to the people in charge.
4. Make a note of the name and direct phone numbers of everyone you speak to.
5. Make a note of when you are told that they will phone back - give them one hour then call them.
6. Understand where you stand with the law.
7. Be prepared to conduct your own research to ascertain what you feel is the proper value of your vehicle.
8. Do not accept verbal offers - stress that you want them in writing.
9. Do not accept any offer that you disagree with - be persistant as it is your vehicle.
10. All insurance companies want your business for their economic benefit not your moral wellbeing - be prepared to ask how you can complain about the service you are receiving - it will get their attention.
Although I'm waiting for the final cheque I'm happy the situation is resolved. A big thanks to everyone who has given advice and morale support; it has been a very stressful period! I'm off on my travels in my newly chassised landy for the next two weeks. Once back I'll post some pics.
Moderator is it possible to add the word INSURANCE to the title in order to help others out in the future? Maybe a sticky?
Thanks again.
