]You do need some poke for a 1.2 I agree, *ahem, remapped Td5, anyway, so I'm not going to bother to take two spare wheels this time on the roof as it made the truck in my opinion a little top heavy, so I will get one of those wheel carrier things for the tailgate. How many nights camping would you say we will do this trip? Just wanting an idea for racking and a better storage system, as I want to carry less crap, but more beer, whilst I appreciated Kens offer of a battered and sanded can of cider, I don't want to run out again.


I think we all said from our last trip we would re-think what we take with us next time; As Chris has said everyone more or less had the same spares but no one had a spare diff or half shaft which was the only breakdown we had. The Garsides had a couple of punctures which they were able to repair. They were running tires with inner tubes. The only other puncture was me on the way back to the ferry in Morocco. My tire just exploded on the motorway and was completely destroyed. Mind you they were old and I was finishing them off on the trip.
I will be interested to hear what Chris has to say once he has fitted 1:2 T/box as his is a 200tdi also, albeit a 90 where as mine is a 110.
 
How he gets on will depend on what tyre size he is using, a 300 tdi Disco with 32 inch tyres I drove the other day was pretty slow in getting off the line and going through the rev range.

'scuse me for dropping in on your thread, but I bumped into Mr Nasty at Santander last April (wasp-coloured 110 pulling a broken VW camper...) and he said to look him up...Hiya!
We (wife+I) had just finished a 4 week trip around Morocco and plan to return next year at roughly the same time as you. If timings and locations matched up, would you mind us tagging onto the back of your convoy for a while? We did everything solo last time and had no problems apart from a puncture. What we didn't do was any big dune stuff as I didn't fancy risking a long time digging us out if it all went wrong, so some "mutual support" would've been good. If you intend to do any of that this time, then we could add our shovels to the group effort....

Making our way down to Algeciras, Southern Spain.Where we will meet up at a compsite, then make our way over on the Monday morning. Several of the group will be meeting up at the LRO show next weekend to plan the route etc. Keep an eye on this thread. Details will be posted as and when someone makes a decision. Most of the present group went on the Morocco 2014 thread which is on here under expeditions.

Jo 90 is running with 235-85-16 Khumo KL71's and at the moment I do mean into 5th at 30mph, I have a feeling its on the 1:6 box. I have a Disco (going to be sold this week I think) and its not gutless, well not completely.

As far as camping nights, I have to pick Rachel up in Marakesh so I will be staying there 1 night, I have found a nice 5* hotel near the airport for £33. I did suggest we stay 2 more nights in hotels or car parks of hotel mainly to have a shower and more beer. We did find an excellent one last time, but I think the campign wa £8 and my bar bill was £80 or something like that.

As for the route, has anyone here not done Erg Chebbi, because I can see the point of re-visiting somewhere we have all been before. If we don't drop to the lower right of Morrocco it wil give us more time to go over the Altlas near Imlil (nice food there) down to Zagora somewhere the Adam & Sid etc cand go through the lovely desert whilst I go for a beer and TXT them things like "oh this beer is nice and the swiming pool is lovely".

The head towards Aka, Assa & Messeyed and then to the sea and up. No doubt just about all of this will be off road.

However, I'm more than happy to deligate the route as Rachel and I feel wee need to follow this time :)

Hi Mr Nasty! Glad to read that you got back OK. It took us another 2 days to reach the sub-Arctic circle where we park ourselves. And another 2 months to clean out all the sand...well, most of it, anyway.
We'll be at the Adventure Overland Show at Stratford at the end of the month if anyone fancies (another) beer. Well keep an eye on how things develope, as you suggest. We'll see if we can make our departure close to yours.
 
Did you get my PM with my phone number? I'm planning on getting the LRO at about 9-30-10AM so I can have a good snout through the jumble and then on the shiny stuff. As for routes, I'm easy, I suppose my least favourite thing is the beach, Land Rover + salt water + salty sand = equals to me wanting to have a seizure and a stroke about corrosion.
 
Ahh.... I seem to remember the pool was lovely and cool too.. as well as the expensive bar tab, but worth it.

Assa would be good as I promised to deliver an engine chain lift to Rashid who repaired my 110 for me on his rest day after prayers.
 
Just to elaborate - the clutch fork had broken and we arrived in Assa about 2pm - we asked at a café and numerous customers immediately got onto their phones - there was no answer - R was probably at the mosque - after about an hour he turned up wearing his best cloths - he had to go home to change - he had no car and his workshop was just an opening in a shed with virtually no tools - he did the job in the road - and finished after dark at about 10.30 - he was concerned about where I was to stay and offered his home - where else!!.
 
Unfortunately I will not be able to make it to the LRO show. I thought I was going to be made redundant but it seems the boss wants to keep me on. Hope the weather is kind to you guys. We have rain forecast for the next week or so. And its pouring down.

The weather was fantastic, back now + parts for the 90. I pulled the Disco off eBay because I was going mad with the stupid questions so I'm in two minds on what car to take. I'll see how the 90 goes with the new transfer box.

Close call Mike, you need to keep working to pay for the food.
 
The show was "alright", more exhibitors and staff than visitors, so the stands were easy and quick to pick through, got a few things, tyre deflater, Jate rings, crap like that. I think because there were not many people the prices of things were less than at LRO.
Next job is to convert the drop down tailgate to swing, as I have given up trying to find a tyre carrier that swings away but doest interfere with my corner protectors, I hve a Disco wheel carrier that I will just bolt through the tailgate with a steel plate on the other side, feel that I'm butchering it, but oh well.
