What year does that T4 release pertain to? If I recall, there used to be a few eBay listings for T4 CDs: you may be able to get one and install it on the T4 hardware you have access to?

I can't imagine that the T4 hardware is anything too special. Presumably it's a rugged laptop, running the software, connecting to the vehicle by some form of serial bus?

That's exactly it

I've just discovered that RDS v6.0 is the underlying T4 software that runs the contents of the vehicle CDs, and it needs to be a combination of that and the more recent Land Rover CD to get things to communicate properly. The garage is unlikely to want to update their software, but there is another one in Manchester.

Essentially right Nodge: a Windows laptop running XP and a docking station with a plethora of cables and a charging unit for the portable unit. The latter is not essential. The interface, and the software itself, is remarkably clunky. Depending on what ECU you are trying to interrogate, you may have to swap cables mid-session. Most aftermarket diagnostic devices do not have that same requirement! But to my knowledge none have the same level of functionality as T4, although I know that Philip (@pscan.eu) has been busy reverse engineering many of the more popular functions.

I don't know which version of the T4 firmware he has access to though?

Throughout this entire thread there's been a truth that hasn't been quite as emphasised enough as it should: that we know one person has succeeded at this.
I've got a couple of PDFs on the subject, from people who have done it.

So this Sunday I'll get a chance to work this out once and for all with the man himself.

I've read this thread two or three times with interest and I'm so willing you on to succeed. From what I can tell, you and the other members are clearly knowledgeable with the technicalities. However, I'm going to pose what may be a silly question which is in my mind. Are you 100% sure that the sensor itself is working?

Hopefully I'll have good news for us on Sunday

Not a silly question, I'll be asking it myself if all goes well - just not appropriate for where it's up to right now. Once the reading shows on the LCD screen then it'll be plain to see whether it's working or not.

It's now been verified that the -30*C reading is independent of the sensor's status, and will always be shown as default. If the sensor is working, then that will start to rise to the correct value. So far I know that the cables running to the sensor have the capacity to carry a current from my measurements, so it seems bodes well at this time. When (if) I get that out-of-range reading to display and it doesn't move it's likely to be one of three:

  • I joined the cables together incorrectly in the cabin
  • The solder came loose on the Instrument pack, or
  • As you say - the sensor isn't actually working
But I won't be able to diagnose that until the LCS coding starts to give

Epic work. What was the resolution? and are you going to be offering your technical services for the odd LZ member who might like to do the upgrade...? *Cough cough ahem*

In essence, a mismatch between T4 versions. MG/Rover favour 5.0.6 while Land Rover react best to 6.0.0. The disk may also be important

I'd have to put together my own T4, but it's a possibility
