Nice old Thwaites dumper, handy dandy tools they are, was bored today so I changed my power steering fluid seeing as it got so hot last Easter and spewed out of the vent.

Your white 110 ready to go Ken?
The dumper is the best bit of kit in the barn - now the hydraulics work though its a bit scary when the steering wheel lifts off whilst driving it
The 110 is all ready to go and back in the barn after its MOT - its 20 years old today so gave it a brisk wash and clean inside.

Father in law has an Thwaites dumper, must be from the early 80's, no brakes, tractor tires nearly bald, no seat as such, no slipping of the clutch, it's either engaged or not and is quite good on crossing the stream and going up slopes though. I don't think it's ever been in his barn, just sits out in the weather but it always starts.

Unlike the 8 ton Bob Cat, which usually has something wrong with it, tracks falling off in the stream or spraying hot hydraulic fluid everywhere, he has a old D6 Cat petrol bulldozer which we had running a few years back,no cab, just a steel seat it had sat for over 20 years and within two hours was moving about, well once it was dug out of the ground.
I propose an expedition around Morocco in old plant and crusty farm machinery lol, with the rules being it must be built before 1980, I'd choose a Thwaites 4x4

Just got the nod for the trip to Namibia - 110 needs to be in a container on 18 April - so going to be tight - plan to get back from Morocco on 4 April and have already booked in for repairs and servicing on 5 April - nothing like a bit of advance planning.

Rear brakes, bearings (fooked), springs (also fooked) done, I took it to the garage due to the flooding here, I can lie under a landy but not swim at the same time. I need to check the fronts now and also do the lighting. Its 50/50 at the moment but I'm getting there ;)

Also fitted the radio, I did not need to run an earth to the chassis because I made a good earth on the fitting using the roof.

It was using water, this is possibly the most serious thing, I topped it up a while ago and will check it tomorrow. This might be because a hose needed doing up a bit. I might need to put a pressure tester on it again.

Mines in for a respray at the moment. I then have to sort out a whine coming from the rear axle and a vibration on the front axle. The vibration on the front has been a problem to identify the cause. I have changed the front prop shaft, wheel bearings. CV joints appear fine. Had the front diff stripped, all looks fine. My Landy guy here is puzzled also. I am thinking of doing a trip to the UK to try and get it sorted out. At this moment in time I am 50/50 also.

This vibration Mike, is it when you drive in a straight line or when going around corners? Have you checked / changed your panhard bushes? Usually the Landy will wander about, but you've probably already looked at them Whine from the rear is usually the bearings hopefully, there is a chap on this website that does rebuilds, he did my front and rear diffs and fitted a new transfer box because my 110 has now done 100k, and is competitively priced and does a most excellent job.

I had a 110 years ago that vibrated at the front end when I bought it, it was a combo of slightly out of shape tyres with too higher pressure, and worn radius arm and panhard bushes. Tried swapping front and rear tyres over?

Hi MrNasty,
the vibration comes in between 50 to 60 MPH, both in a straight line and when turning. To me the vibration resembles something like a UJ that once went on an old Austin Cambridge I had. I have changed the front prop for a new one. My Landy guy stripped and checked the front Diff. We changed wheel bearings, he stripped the cv all appeared to be fine We also swapped his wheels over onto mine, no difference. I have Polly bushes, they all seem OK.

Mike mine does exactly the same between 50 and 60 - put it down to balancing on large tyres - had them rebalanced and slightly better but basically still the same. I just try not to drive at that speed!!.

I had the wheels balanced and tried running it with a complete set of RR wheels off my Landy guys RR. Still the same. It feels more of a bearing/UJ/CV type of thing. My Landy guy is wandering if it might even be coming from the transfer box, although he has stripped it and all appears fine. He even took it to a mate of his who has a Land Rover garage and he could't work it out. We also disconnected the front prop and drove it in diff lock. Still there. The we did the same with the rear prop. Still there.

What does the drain plug look like when you take it off? Covered in spikey swarf?

Just a thought, I have a 1.4 transfer box that I took off my 2005 110, nothing wrong with it, no noises, but I swapped it for a new 1.2, I could bring it down with me to Morocco and you could get someone to fit it there for bugger all, probably overnight fitting for £60.

What part of the UK are you in. I might do a trip over there.

The Drain plug on the transferbox seems fine. No spikey swarf
