For the ferry, go to the super market next to McDonalds in Algeciras there is a small office where the bloke will do you discount rates he speaks good English and will talk you through the whole process.. People were paying about 200 euro return to get to Morocco and we paid 50 :)

In our Range Rover there will be Adam and Sid,who and how many are in the other Landys for SpaceDawg"s Moroccan Blast?

In my Defender will be me: Mike & my long term friend from school days Gerald.
Gerald lives in Yorkshire, he will be coming over for the trip an joining me here in France.

I'm wondering what is themost pointless thing one of us will take?

I was thinking abuot attaching a loo seat to my tow bar for comfort.

Well in my classic theirs me, my trusty co pilot bruno (me dog!) And in the rear my not so useful friend!! Lol or should that be the other way round! Not so sure on some of our trips!! Lol

my most useless item? Well it has to be the landy!! Hahaha nar she only has a few off days to be fair, just like my missus! Lol

Ok, I have been booked out for work abroad from next Sunday for a couple of weeks, I'll email you all a suggested meeting place, lets see if we can get together and discuss the finer points of the route mid Feb.

Just a had a wee peep at some of the threads.

If you download your free map of choice here, and to include Morocco, you'll find that they're better by far than any Garmin map or Olaf. You'll see that the map for Maroc (when you zoom in)will have all of the off road pistes listed and it will even route off road via same.

I have visited Maroc lots of times in both on my LR and the last two trips were done on moto. I search for as much off roading as possible(the last trip covered about 1000kms off road) and I use only the Open Street Map as Garmin does not have the detail.

Have a look here for some of my GPS routes if you wish and find the ride report also. You'll find some good info in there. If I can be of any further help post questions as you want from what to take to average hotel prices etc.

For example you'll not need to bring cash before you leave as most large towns have an ATM...you'll even get Dirhams at Tanger Med from the ATM there.

Hi Guys,
I'm new to CB's so I am looking for some advise. I have a hand held Intek 520.
I'm trying to decide on an Arial to mount on the Defender. I'm torn between a Thunderpole Truckers type Arial which has a claimed range of 5 miles 0.89m or if I should go for a large 1.55m whip type mounted on the roof rack of my Defender which has a claimed range of 10 miles.
I'm also torn between a mag mount or a mount bolted to the roof rack.
My thinking is with a mag mount I will be able to use it in other vehicles and when in Morocco it can easily be removed and hidden. I will need to check to see if the roof of the Defender is metal or ali.
Not having been on a trip like this I would like to hear what you guys would opt for.

Hi Mikescuba - had mine on roof rack and it was rubbish - now have it on bull bar and a lot better - no need to worry about taking mount off for Morocco as long as you unscrew the ariel - cannot remember the type I have but will see if I can find out - also I had a handheld and did not find the reception very good in the car!. Hope this helps.

Hi guys, yes all interesting stuff thanks. I spoke with the people at Thunderpole who have been very helpful. They said if on the roof rack of a Defender the roof rack has to be earthed to the chassis which might explain why yours worked better on the Bull Bars.
Any idea what length Ariel you have and what sort of range you should expect.

I'm thinking with the truckers 0.89m ariel with a five mile range that should be sufficient, unless someone else knows different. But something inside me is telling me "bigger is best"

Hi,

I have a bloody great big mag mount, which sticks to a Disco really well (as does rust) and a big black whip oh err, the guys at thunderpole are half right, an earth to the chassis will help because it will improve the ground plane a little. If it were I, I'd go for two on the bull bar because it looks coll.

Also you can unscrew the aerial before crossing.

P.S. Got me suspension fitted today ;-)
