Good choice after my virtually destroyed BF all terrains - I'm ready too - but perhaps not yet - 44 was a wee bit warm for me!!.

Pleased to hear from you again. Yes after seeing yours it did put me off. I have gone for 235x85x16. I was tempted to get the same size as yours but I think I prefer the little extra height and I am told a narrower base should be better in the snow.
I'm looking into GPS's at the moment. After sitting on my backside and letting you guys do all the navigation I felt guilty. But I soon got over it. What was the hand set you have and would you buy again?

It was a Garman 60csx with Mapsource from Garman on the laptop - it does the job but screen is small as they all are - if given the choice again would go for a Toughbook by Panasonic if I could mount it on the dash somehow - a bit like what 3extr---- had. The reason why my Garman would not work is because a bit of plastic from my nuvi lodged in the cigarette lighter socket and I didn't realise this until the way home. PS I'm off again in the Autumn!!!!.

don't forget our face book site Two ex-Truckers & a Mid-Life Crisis lots of photos.I think we are putting the rangy up for sale soon

Might go for a 130 or if budget permits a reynolds boughton...

I'll get round to sorting out our pics then post some up somewhere.

Glad all got back ok.

Hi Dunkan, try this: facebook.com/TwoExTruckersWithAMidLifeCrisis

I got it, plenty pictures of the P38 stuck. But we had a great time. I do hope we can all get together for 2016. Hopefully all this Ebola and ISI will have settled etc.

I've been looking at sat navs, Garmin ones, I do actually like the look of the old street pilot 3 as it's water proof and shock proof, but it's a bit old now and does not take cards over 128mb which have to be Garmin ones. So with that in mind I've been looking at new ones, as they seem to be happy with big card memory and from what I have read are able to load and run the Olaf map. As the new ones are thin, I thought I would remove the ashtray, and build a mount for the unit so it's not reliant on those crappy sucky things that don't work on normal roads and can be firmly screwed to a plinth that will fit into the hole underneath the ashtray. Only question I have is, as the windscreen is so vertical do normal sat nav units pick up a reliable signal, without an external antenna?

I'm on a learning curve here myself. I'm working on various mapping systems to install on a laptop. I bought a Panasonic Toughbook with GPS attachment. which I am playing around with. I have never noticed any problem running a normal TomTom sat nav in my Defender. Signal seems fine. One thing I would mention for you to bear in mind with your installation is to make sure it can be removed out of site when your parked up as they will nick anything they can get there hands on.

It will be removable as the wooden plinth will just be wedged into the hole underneath the ashtray, will do pics once I have found the unit I'm looking for.
