You are. 1996. EDC and Thor are same Gems is different. But only in respect of ECM/BECM sync. Nothing to do with passive immobiser.

No, i meant EDC and Thor are slightly different to the GEMS. GEMS engine is slightly more tied into the BECM. '96 manufacturing year could be right. It isn't on my '95 models.

I don’t have passive coil have never lost sync not even running for months with a dead battery. (EDC)
Key in ignition, hold fob key has reset ‘engine immobolised’ every time

...So far....

Right, just put let in ignition, tried to start, day said engine disabled, press remote. Tried again, same message and no start.
Switched off, plugged nano in, disabled eka and immobiliser. Switched off nano. Put key back in ignition and engine started with no dash message.

Is that what we're on about or have i got it wrong again?

A bit of both...you didn't check to see if the disabled flags got rolled back to ENabled (in a new session), which they do (on my GEMS and I'm guessing on most/all BeCMs). Check it, see what you find. Amongst lots of other options I have tested i. having EKA and Imm Enabled, tripping the alarm, and then supposedly disabling those settings and ii. having EKA and Imm disabled from the outset (which are my default setting these days) and tripping the alarm. THE OUTCOME IS ALWAYS THE SAME. Key in drivers lock opens the door. Key in ignition triggers a CDL unlock of the other 3 doors, and immediately thereafter the engine starts.
or another way - if you had jumped up and down on one leg before finally turning the ignition key, that hasn't demonstrated that jumping up and down on one leg was necessary for starting the car.

I've also just triggered key code lockout (EKA and Immob enabled) and desync'd the key by pressing the fob a few times with the car battery disconnected - same outcome - fob unlock doesn't work (tested, just to confirm), key in lock to unlock drivers door only, key in ignition CDL opens the other 3, engine starts... I didn't hop on one leg, or do anything else unnecessary to restart the car.

Great - so you can also start without "disabling" anything in BeCM - this is kind of the point...

Righto, unlock door with key, try to start car, engine immob.
Key out, nano on. Dash will not go into diagnostic mode and nano does not read settings from becm.* There is no error and you are able to change any setting and write, which gives a success message but it has not written any setting as there is no communication.
Once i turned nano off and pressed the fob, dash went into diagnostic mode and i was able to actually write settings to becm.
*I know settings were not read because those displayed in the nano were different to those actually did in the becm. Once diagnostic mode was displayed on the dash, the settings in nano were displayed correctly.

Don't come in ere much for fear of catching summat and repair bills escalating.

Same way I don't go in the Tratter section for risk of catching summat and me motor turning to dust.

But I've donned a mask to read through this thread and shall report back that with winter coming on we need to strengthen the fencing round the Freelander section to keep the snowflakes, girls blouses and general weirdos from the other forums out. :D

While I'm in here though, does anyone know what a MAF does?
Don’t you mean MILF ?
