Hi guys

This is my first post

I am going to view and test drive today the above car and it would be great to have some advice from you folks on what I need to look for. I am viewing at about 2pm so any advice beforehand would be appreciated.

85,000 miles
1 lady owner from new
6 Landrover service stamps
4 brand new tyres
I have been told it has a BRC conversion ..tanks underneath car
Body work from photos looks immaculate

I am paying 5,600 .. Does this seem OK?

Any advice, tips, help or support appreciated!
 
I took the car for a test drive this afternoon for about 1 hr with a mixture of motorway and city driving. I have not driven any other Land Rovers so slightly difficult to compare, however, the ride was smooth, auto change smooth with no clunks, all dashboard lights came on and then off.

The LPG system is a Generation 2 Gas Injection system by Prins. There was 2 small knicks is in the leather and a chip in the windscreen so he knocked a couple of hundred quid off

Issues...

The biggest one for me is that the LPG tank appears to be very small. When I took it for the drive the tank had no LPG in so I put about 15 quid in for the run. On the way back the LPG beeped to indicate it needed more gas. I was really surprised and disappointed to see that it ony takes about 25 pounds worth of gas. Further the unleaded tank ont took 35 to completely full. I had presumed the tank would be 60 minimum so am concerned I am going to have to fill this very often as I do about 400 miles a week

Second when I filled the car I released the fuel flap from the dash. However it remains stuck out so needs a two man effort to close it after filling the unleaded. 1 to press the button on the dash and a second to push the flap in.

It is sold as seen so it is my look out on the size of the tank issue.... Should have asked.... Warning to others

On a positive note it looks and drives wonderfully. No scratches or dents has a full service history and low mileage

£35.00 to fill full of petrol? Was that from empty? It takes over a ton to fill a diesel! Maybe someone has put in a small petrol tank to leave room for a small LPG tank there.

The fuel filler flap, unless that's been altered as well likely won't be a problem. There's a plastic "thingy" inside the flap that catches the protruding rod when you close it. That'll probably need replacing. They don't last too long, but they're only a few quid.

I am considering taking the car in for a service and at the same time investigating the possibility of putting in a much larger tank as it will drive my crazy to have to keep going to refill

It sounds as though you have a reduced size petrol tank and a small gas tank as well. This is NOT a good combo for 400 miles per week.

Plus the car is far too expensive.

DO NOT BUY !!!!!!!!

What he said....... and just get a diesel!
 
I thought LPG was cheaper to run given the price of diesel at the pumps.
I have 65L tank LPG and get 200/220 miles per tank
 
You pay more monwy for a Diesel in the first place, I get LPG for 60p a litre, would love to know how an oil burner beats that.:dance:

I now pay £19.99 for 20 litres of veg oil, and get about 450 miles to a 60/70 litre fill-up, depending on how and where I drive which works out at about 14p per mile .. seems cheaper to me, taking into account what Rodney said "I have 65L tank LPG and get 200/220 miles per tank" .. which at 60p a litre works out at 17p a mile.

Who really cares? I don't do enough mileage to worry about a few pence either way ..
 
I had a Range Rover 4.4V8 with LPG for a while. Did 18mpg on petrol and about 15mpg on LPG. Had a 80litre LPG tank but it ran low after about 120miles and needed a refill. Most garages only have one lpg pump usually shared with petrol and diesel too so I usually had to queue up for it as well. A trip to 260 mile trip to Cornwall starting with a full tank means 2 refuelling stops for LPG.

Drove me mad, sold it and got a D2 TD5 instead, range aprox 600 + miles. Fuel costs similar to (possibly a little more overall) than LPG.

Yes but most buy at the pump rather than supermarket.

My LPG Disco was alot cheaper to buy in the 1st place with alot lower milage

You need to work out the price per mile for both vehicles, then you'll see. Using your figures (200/65) I calculate that equates to 14mpg!!!

Just like my experience with a D1 V8 Disco. I found I had to plan every journey so I knew where I was going to get gas - and quite often the place I stopped had run out / stopped doing LPG. It was bad enough solo but a nightmare when towing the caravan (especially as I only got around 100 miles before refuelling) as many places had very poor access - eg one near Taunton where you had to reverse up to the pump.

Had the TD5 for nearly 3 years now and much happier. I like LPG in principle but unless you always do the same journeys / stay local it's no use to me.

you get 13- 15 max on LPG I get between 30 and 35 per gallon on diesel plus you waste LPG searching for a station that sells it

yes i would agree with you about finding a filling station but LPG cost 65p and deisel 1.40 ish. Plus you can normall save a lot on the purchase price of the vehicle.

The V8 quicker smoother and better for towing
 
get twin torpedo tanks added under the sills they hold 35 or 45L each, i have got 2 on mine and a reduced fuel tank and another 2 tanks, think it takes about 150L of lpg and 20petrol and does what it does on that much fuel, i dont wanna work it out per mile will probably cry

You Cant fit torp tanks to a Disco 2 unless its a base model without ACE and air suspension as the plumbing for those two lives where the tanks need to go
