That's a very kind offer, which I may well take you up on.. but I wonder if it's worth trying to re-flash the firmware first, as I've read elsewhere that has helped others with similar (although not entirely the same) situations?
 
You absolutely sure ther is no dampness or corrosion in any of the connectors or any of the units?
 
Well, the nav unit is bone dry, and there's no dampness anywhere around that area.. in fact, anywhere in the car. But I haven't taken the other units out / apart..

You need to look very closely into the base of the connectors round the pins, if there is a faint green apperance, signsls will be tracking between the pins.
