It is the Atlantic Sahara tour end October / start November

my missus is coming as is another friend of mine who is coming... so... she'll have plenty of company to talk about handbags and shoes... or whatever it is that women seem to spend hours on the phone talking about.

If you are interested give John a ring - he is a really nice guy and will talk you through your vehicle suitability, etc. (it's not about off-road mods, more about reliability, etc.)

Hello mate,

I will be contacting John this week to discuss. Yes we will let them get on with it haha.

My motor is pretty geared around over landing all bar a few nice off-road mods (IMO) but I'm doing a fair bit of additional prep in light of the trip. Its a 1986 90 however now running 300tdi and has been rebuilt by myself, nut and bolt. completely new and referbished axles diffs etc.

will be going to Allisport for new alli rad and another larger intercooler with Variable vain turbs so should all be running pretty fresh for the trip. if anyone wants a roof tent I have one for sale 500 quid.

anyway I'm excited as even if I can’t get on this trip I'm now 100% going :)

Also on my list is 6 new tyres
Sand ladders
GPS System
Aux Fuel tank

Well the list is endless J but I reckon I have most of the gear already. Failing this I have a discovery 4 HSE that I’m sure she would be delighted for me to ruin haha

Hi Glenn,

I hope you get in on the trip, I will be on the Atlantic Sahara one in my 300tdi 90 too :)

I am also considering a aux fuel tank, will you just be fitting a TD5 tank?

Will PM you about the roof tent.

Cheers

Ahh bugger, bought a roof tent and paid a load more than that :(

Ah well, hope you can get on the trip :D - sounds like you're Landy is pretty sorted and ready for it and should be fine. Mark L has a load of Ali Sport stuff on his D1 too... sounds a similar situation to yours actually, very well modified and maintained.

That said - I'm taking a shiny D3... and if i damage it i'm in trouble with the wife, so, can't see why you wouldn't be ok in a D4!

Let us know if you get on - mention you know us all... he's normally a bit lenient on the last few places, if people really push him and know folk going he'll let them on. :D

Ok so what Ferry are you guys all on? I have persuaded me mate to come too and checked with Trailmasters who are ok with another vehicle but now struggling to find a ferry.

let me know.

cheers,

Glenn

Britanny Ferries. 17:15 crossing from Portsmouth to Santander. :)
Expect to pay from £320 each way depending on what your cabin requirements are.

You can only book the outbound journey at the minute too. I think the return journey can be booked from July.

Mark and I were talking about doing a "shake down" trip one weekend in August / September camping away somewhere so we can put names to faces and check if everything works as it should...

Anyone interested?

Cartoon Head? Glenn? Anyone else?

Yep Wales sounds perfect. I'm all hands on deck trying to get my landy ready. September would be ideal for me. Ideal middle to end. I'm possibly going to take mine for a trip up to Scotland to make sure nothing leaks etc under prolonged road driving.

Subtle!

Are you going to tag along to Morocco too? Mark has a spare seat... :p

Wales sounds like a good option then. Happy with September time - to ensure it happens shall we confirm a date now? 21/22 weekend or the 28/29 better for folk?

BGB if you want to pull a laning route together, thats fine, but, it needs to be NON SCRATCHY, plenty of head room and not too extreme as i'll be in the D3 with a roof tent on. Unless I've ended up with my flat bed by then, in which case i'll bring Bump too :D

Subtle. Im sure i dont know what your talking about. snigger. :D

I will look at a route, although finding non scratchy routes around Rhayader aint gonna be easy. I will get on it and have a look see, need something to do on my night shift saturday after the football anyway :)

Has your D3 got a sump guard? there is a really nice lane i know, but it has one rocky outcrop that is quite tricky.

Brilliant... no, but, i've been looking for an excuse to buy one... with tank guard and winch bumper - cus you can't have one witout the other two :D
:tea:

Although, tbh, its quite likely i'll have my flatbed before then - looking like i'll be getting it in the next month or so, so, can bring Bump across and use him for fun and games :D
