No, it has never had a damper in there. Must have cost me a fortune in heating over the years.

It’ll likely be blocked with a birds nest anyway. I’ve never swept a blocked ie fire place blocked that didn’t have twigs etc raining down.

I'd get it swept anyway then plug it, you can get a spinner for the top, keep the crows from chucking the eggshells down ...

I used to have one of those, they are fab but I couldn't get the weird plastic taste out of it.
Was thinking more of the central heating pump as W gets so cold, the freezer, provided it is not off for too long if left closed ought to be OK but you do have a point about the fridge. And we do tend to use electric lights quite a bit though we do have lovely old oil lamps and even two Tilleys.
Oh and W will still be able to watch the box. maybe should rethink this!!

A tad chilly this morning.
Going to stick some crud-buster in the CH system today, let it run for a week and then drain it all down next Sunday.
Radiators all off and powerflushed then new TRV's on the Monday & Tuesday.
Well, that's the plan, anyway.
