What dimwit came up with the idea of connecting up to the servo  If your towing a trailer with a
car on it which weighs more & they still use the trailer brakes
Its always great to have us lot to help out. :):)
Isn't it just!
I dunno how much you know about the A frame devices. The old style ones just relied on being clamped to the suspension and had to be tightened up every 50 miles.
Then came the ones with a lever from the tow piston which pushed on the brake pedal, which were totally fine, then came some cocksucker with nothing better to do with his lack of brains than to say, "Oh, but that won't do, the original car needed a servo so it still does." forgetting that the force applied by the lever was massively more than the force the average Joe or Joan puts on their brake with their foot.:mad::mad:
I still have cars heavier than the Pluriel, which have no servo. Wifey's Speedster for instance. A Morris Marina 1800 single carb didn't have one either.
So to be legal the noo ones have to be massively more complex and of course expensive, to say nothing of being trickier to fit.
May still go back and have a look at them though.

I had my dewalt troosers wiv knee pads in em they are a god send :):)
You should be a rep for them!

@Stanleysteamer Trailers are stupid money for decent ones how much do you really want to
spend.

Thought about a tow dolly...much cheaper. I know where theres one in a barn :D

Just looked into the legalities of using a dolly. Can only be used to recover a broken down vehicle.
This shows how using a dolly or anything else like it is ruled.

only 40 mph on a M-way! and it must be properly broken down, not just have the batt disconnected. It'd never get on the ferry!

Cheers, Mate!
Just bookmarked it. That's a bit cheaper than the ones I have been looking at.
I was trying to avoid beavertails, and hadn't really thought about a towing dolly, don't know if that would be a good idea for a nearly 600 mile trip. but thinking about it, I don't really know why not! You can tell I have only rarely towed a car before, on a trailer except for the short distance to an MOT station to get a kit car registered. And that belonged to a mate, single axle and again a Metro on another mates trailer from Weymouth to my place. so far more experience towing the box trailer, which at the end of the day is more difficult both to load and to tow.
We have also thought about one of those long distance A-frame things, but they have now got to be connected to the brakes and vacuum supplied to the system. Even though it doesn't need it. Won't go into detail now but this ought, basically, to be an easy thing to do, connecting into the towed cars braking system mechanically but some idiot decided it had to be able to use the servo, despite the fact that system supplies easily enough pressure to the pedal even without the servo. and there is the business of making holes in the bodywork or through the grille etc. Can't see us having time to do this now.:(
I'll deffo look into using a dolly, it might actooly be the answer.
Thanks again mate for making me think out of the box!!:):):)
Unsure if you can use a dolly in France.
Can you look at a plant type trailer? You can put the sides on & it’s useful.
The 1 I use fits a 88”landrover on disco axles which just fit without the sideS

Thanks for this.
I have looked at these as well as all other types of twin axled numbers. it Would be useful to have one that does more than just transporting cars. The last time I was involved in moving a Disco, it was mine that had to go to a garage for electrical work. My ex sil brought his Ifor-Williams one with ramps and I think it had low sides too, so not a dedicated car transporter, but it was fine for the short journey. We had to winch it on with a Tirfor as well, the ramps were pretty steep!
I am not looking to transport Landies on it, just the wife's car and maybe at sometime in the future a Froggy car I may buy to leave over there, so weight is less of an issue. But even her blinking C3 based number is 13 feet long, so many car transporter trailers are too short. Also it'd be VERY handy if the doors could open with it on the trailer as we'll be filling it up with stuff to take with us. But yes I do often have a need for a trailer with sides and that will be even stronger once I have sold the box trailer.
Thanks again for taking an interest.
all advice is being seriously considered.
The one @kevstar posted the link to seems cheaper than others that are much the same. I don't know how I didn't find it so am very grateful for the link. New ones seem to be very little more expensive than second hand and some of those look fecking ropey!

@Stanleysteamer - its been puzzling me but - why not one of you just drive the pluriel to frogland?
This is what we have done for ages, but ever since W drove off the road, asleep, it has been obvious she isn't really up to driving such long distances. She has to take loads of painkillers every day plus she is now 74, etc etc. so we decided it is safer for her to ride with me with her car behind us. When over there for 6 months we need two cars. a little un for general running around but a big un for load lugging. I agree though and we have been thinking of getting just one more modern and more economical vehicle some sort of an estate maybe. But, and this is just a personal thing, she loves driving her Pluriel with the top down and I love driving the Disco! Also in dodgy weather, bing in the mountains, the Disco is reassuringly safe especially if we go off into the forest roads in the Montagne Noire. Ther is a bit of green laning/off road stuff we can do.
