Sounds great!We bought one in 2002 and then planted him in the garden where he grew and grew and grew in spite of being pruned every year to keep his girth in check. I used to put outdoor lights on him every year until he got too big to get up to it and then two years ago he just had to go.We donated him to the local primary school who were delighted with him.
We did take one old Crispmus tree to France to fill in a gap in our Leylandii hedge, it too has grown fast.
I think maybe keeping our little 'un in a pot restricts its growth a bit, dunno really.
We have a neighbour who does what you did and he deffo needs ladders to put all the lights up. It looks really nice though!
