No worries mate just give me a buzz. My winch is all fitted up and working now so am really happy. Had to convert the solenoid cover lots but I had a spare steel one that came with it so an hour with the dremel and it was all good. Disco rear axles are much the same as a defender item but they have the driving members welded rather than the drive shaft coming thru like the fronts. Suppose it was a cost cutting exercise. My old 90 had a pair of disco axles in and was fine.
 
I was comparing the disco Axle to my Salisbury axle. Salisbury is very strong Basically its a Dana 60 axle for yank trucks strong as lovley 4 pin diff! If you are going disk brakes your best bet is a late disco axle non abs. 24 spline diff and outers or like DB says welded outers (not sure if the late 24 spline are welded or not may only be 10 spline ones that are welded, not sure) Defo go 24 spline especially with your huge tyres.

Never broken a rear shaft but I expect I will be abusing my mota alot over the next couple of years just wanted peace of mind to know it can take loads of abuse if I ever need to give it any and not let me down miles away from everywhere. Jai

All the S1 disco's Ive seen have the welded flange on the rear. Have you ever seen the Salisbury front axles?

Hey DB, many thanks for the help yesterday! Got quite a bit done on the Shogun, just a couple of jobs left and then the MOT. Looks like a xfer box is in the offing as well! Woo hoo might have a car back running damn soon!
 
screwy no problem about friday night will have to get your drop arm sorted before your mot aswell

db yea i would love a salisbury front end but i havent got 700 quid spare at the mo mabe next month aye not lol!

ryder did you get ur bearings done ok? im changing my water pump that is fun its all stripped down but gunna do the am belt while its stripped.
