Just a note to Say how much I hate Dakar Kit car version of a Rangerover! Swapping chassis over today Bull**it roll cage box section thingy fell on me foot now I'm limping! Hate the ugly things even more now Jai

Its a mates he has been building it for a while we brought a late efi rangie last year and broke it, he is using the efi engine and gearbox in an older 1970odd chassis we just had to swap bits over today using the late type bulkhead/floorpan on top of the old mint chassis. Hard to believe just how rusty the Newer rangie was. It had never been off road FSH and still the chassis was scrap. Jai

I think around 1989/1990 land rover sourced cheaper steel from china/russia, axle casings pre 1989 seem to last longer. Loads of 1986/7 defenders with decent chassis. Jai

Touching them...I wouldn't kow what do with them if they were in my hands! Ready and desperately looking forward to it but... a little apprehensive and trying to take all the sensible precautions beforehand.
Lets go tomorrow instead!

I think mine is ready to go but I wouldn't go without any spanners or a couple of spares, oh and my RAC Memebership card.
Just ordered an electric fan for it, see if that makes any difference - can't see it reducing the fuel bill but I hope it will make it crisper on the throttle.

I'm all set, got a few bits that i'm aware will need to be done at some point but not anything that is likely to fail in the near future, but i'll bring the parts with me just in case.

Never mind the car... We thought we hd better go and set up the tent... you know make sure everything is present and correct... make sure we can do it even if it is raining, all hat sort of stuff.
Off we trot to Ashridge. Find a field (plenty of them over there) and set to getting everything out of the bag and putting those flexible poles through the sleeves n all that.
Just one thing... we forgot a mallet. One gust of wind and we had to use the kids as weights to stop the damn thing flying away. Then when we were redy to hammer it into the ground and keep everything in place... no mallet and as soon as we got one side in place the other side came unstuck!
It really was something out of a carry on film. I'm starting to think that there's a lot to be said for B & B.
Ah well, we'll have another go tomorrow and see if we can get further!

I've had my tent up once before, took about 2 hours that time partly because 6 of the poles looked like they were the same length only to find after pushing them through that there was a 4 inch difference. Should be a lot better at Salisbury as i will have had a practice weekend at Cornwall the weekend before.

Was just driving down the M40 and saw a Defender 90 Northbound just after M25 junction - it was in outside 2 lanes on its side but the caravan was still upright. Hope it was no one from here and if unfortunately it was - Hope you're ok!
