Its 12, and you need a police permit to do it,anything up to 11,you do not need anything but smaller groups is better. If anyone wants to go laneing I can lead them.

so what distance between veichels classes it as a convoy? if ther are 3 then 50 mtres and another 3 is that a convoy of 6 or 2 3s? that wouldnt stand if it was contested that rule.

TBH I dont know the answer to that. The reason I found out was I was running a Treasure Hunt so I look into the rules and the like. But I could not do it with 12 or more cars. So I run it as ascatter rally, as theres no set route you can run as many cars as you like. But there must be no set route.

Just wonder about his law as the annual school treasure hunt has about 30 - 40 vechicles taking part. Inform the local plods, no just list the speed camera sites.
Some of the people are quite "high up" who take part get the odd copper, director of education, couple of JP's, head's, local councilors even an MP, and a MEP. All end up in some posh knob country eating house and some chip in for the "Bozze bus" home.
Chaos at times all trying to get round minor country roads, we took a short cut once up a lane to avoid the hassle. LOL few followed us up
in posh 2x4 cars, our mobiles wound'nt stop ringing . Only a short bit, but the laughs, tatty old series dragging them up one by one. . Needless to say did'nt buy any drinks that night

Strata Florida, which is regularly used by the guided groups (and where I have seen a group of up to 17 on 10th Nov last year), has a floating road over the peat and boggy bits. Where large groups meet the opportunity to make a low impact diversion is diminished - and the sides of the track get can churned up.
The rationale that it is 'rare for large groups to meet' is indefensible, because it does happen occasionally - and it's avoidable by only going in smaller groups.
GLASS say max 4, I think 5 is more realistic. I prefer 3 as an ideal number for laning, but that's just a preference.

Most of it is hard surface criss x crossing a stream on the south and hard surface on the north
Its boggy if you go off the track but you should not be doing that, there is even a well defined hard surface track where it speads out by that cottage.
Now the wayfarer has a "floating road" old railway sleepers, but if you use your eyes often see groups miles ahead plenty of safe non damaging places to pass.
Some large groups split on long lanes, so its often you come across say 3-4 smaller groups, but they are all part of the same group. One finds out when you spot them in the pubs in villages

I said most are hard rock, of course get a few muddy ones, but on the whole the surfaces are hard underneath
Often get full of water but again its just water sometimes you come off the hillside with your truck cleaner casue the water, close hedges and the driving rain washes all the mud off.
Once on "Bomber" the rain was at about 90 degrees, wind was terrible force 8 or someting , the rain was just washing the trucks like a carwash, soaked we were inside, it was coming though the door seals.

Pretty sure its in the NW part of grid square SN 7961 just by one of the upper river crossings, where the ground is soft either side. On the 1:25k map its marked as a marsh/bog too. The road has sunk a few feet down over the ages and there is a large cut up section of ground to the south where people have gone off track.

Well its Straita all right, and in parts all around is bog, but I don't remember any "floating road" most is hard rock and easly done with standard 205 road tyres, even crossing the river its a solid surface underneath.
Couple of places further north going downhill its got muddy, but under the surface its rock again, its where mud has been washed down by overflowing rivers.
I admit it can be a differcult track to follow at times, people think or go off few yards and hit mud. Some places its not clear which is the correct route but again both routes are hard rock and re join couple of yards on
