did you lift the front wheel off the floor, put in neutral and put socket and bar on the front wheel nut and try to turn it. You will feel a lot of resistance but it should turn slowly and consistently.there are a few vids on YouTube that will explain exactly what you looking for!
if you try this using the engine you run the risk of the abs correcting the traction control!!
... you would see I could not do that....Last Saturday, luckily on a roundabout, my front drive-shaft decided to part ways with the transfer box. Made a bit of noise too...
Why did you not check it with the prop off as advised?
you cant check it without a prop dude! Uh!! It'll turn if is shagged or not!! If you dont have your prop then test it when you have one! Uh!!
From what I understand you should be able to check out the VC anyway, apply the handbrake and climb under the vehicle with a large(ish) lever and see if you can rotate the front output shaft from the transfer case, it should be hard to turn but still should give, when the VC fails I believe it fails in the locked solid condition, so if it will not give at all, you know that there is the problem.
With 15 lb ft of torque applied to the front transfer box drive flange nut. VC should turn about 90 degrees in a minute...
it will move! As I said, but without testing it by either method you are pi§§ing in the wind. If you cant test it, there's no real answer until you have the opportunity to do so..
Ah ok, so me bad. By being seized I thought that they meant that it would not even move, which in turn made sense of sorts to why the propshaft ripped itself off, if you get my gist. Especially as it was during very "gentle" manoeuvres, ie: gently pulling onto an empty roundabout... BANG.
Mind you, the UJs do seem more than likely to being the cause. If you look at the video you will see what remains of the sections of the UJ that fitted into the propshaft.
You should have used the method i suggested.
Now as I tried to do what these two gentlemen suggested but failed due to location and situation...
#wammers, need I say more! LoL
And as I said above (below)...Ok carry on, but what you posted on video proves nothing. Horse to water and drink comes to mind.
...hence the flick.Ah ok, so me bad. You are missing the point entirely. The video means nothing.
I think it is you Wammers that is missing my point, or at the very least you are either not reading or understanding what I have said! As I said "Ah ok, so me bad. I am trying to give you good advice you seem not to want it.
I know you are and I appreciate it. All I have said is that due to the location and situation I am in at the moment I have not been able to do what you and a few others have advised. On top of that I have also said that, until only yesterday, I was misunderstanding the comment of the VCU being "seized", hence the useless video.
