Just fitted a new Bosch battery to my Freelander 2 but the positive battery clamp 10mm nut hardly moved whilst trying to slacken off and certainly wasn`t tightening up afterwards.

Have checked Ebay and they are around £30 ish with only two suppliers based in UK.

Anyone have any alternative suggestions or modifications that will do the job ;)

Hi Charlie.
You need to undo the clamp use a screw driver to open the end a little, I know this sounds the opposite to what needs doing but try it, then push do the clamp on the battery pole, now tighten up slowly, do not over tighten nip it up, then just little turn more.

The same happens on the R40 = Rover 75 battery poles.

Many thanks Arctic2 for your reply and the link ;-)

I understand what you are saying but unfortunately when I put a 10mm socket on the 10mm nut it feels like its turning but its neither tightening or undoing. I have placed a folded piece of tin foil between the battery post and clamp to attempt a fit tight enough to start the car. My fear is if its not tight enough it could arc.

Hi Charlie.
The clamp is certainly not seated down on the pole properly, you need to try and get the nut moving put a small plastic wedge under the nut when trying to undo, if you can get it off, open the jaws like already stated, add a washer before putting the nut back on, make sure the clamp is seated down as far as it will go and then nip the nut up do not over tighten it.

I have just changed my battery note the clamp and how it is seated down.

Many thanks Arctic2 for your reply and the photos :)

I appreciate and acknowledge the clamp is not seated correctly on the pole but this is the furthest I could push it onto the pole. Unfortunately as Freddie17 has correctly diagnosed the nut is rotating on the shaft.

The local LR garage doesn`t have a replacement terminal, was hoping something like the Halfords two way clamp might suffice as I have contacted three other LR garages this morning and none of them stock the battery terminal.

Just found these on Ebay, listed as BMW MINI Audi VW Ford Battery VOLVO MB Cable Clamp Securing 10mm T Bolt and Nut.

Looks like they might do the job so have ordered a couple :)

As the F2 is very much Ford based, its probably the right fit.

The F2 is also closely related to a Volvo (XC60?) that was developed under Ford ownership.

And give the battery terminals a light sanding, that will remove any build-up of contamination and ensure a good connection
Thanks very much Freddie17 for your reply and advice :)

Thankyou GrumpyGel for your reply, every day is a school day :vb-tup:

A quick follow up on this topic.

Removed the postive battery terminal over the weekend, removed the old T bolt, cleaned the battery terminal, fitted the new T bolt ( as per photo in #7 ) before reseating the positive battery terminal correctly.

The T bolts were under £4 each as opposed to a new terminal around £30 ish.
