Happy New Year Everyone,
EAS playing up again on my 2001 P38a Vogue. Have replaced all air bags with much appreciated help/advice from Datatek but now other issues (eg RL valve stuck open ).

Wondered about converting to coil springs rather than chasing EAS faults and spending more and more money?

Would appreciate any thoughts/experiences of one versus the other.

All the best, Dmanrace.

Don't do it.

One the ride is appalling on coils (in RR standards), might as well just buy a Disco as that is what it feels like.

Two, the new MoT Test rules are now in effect. That means that you cannot have modifications that change the vehicle away from OEM spec with the exception of classic cars and trackslags.

The EAS is pretty simple to repair and a lot better than coils. By fitting coils you remove a safety feature, which makes the car easier to roll under certain conditions.

RL stuck open simply means that the Rear Left height sensor is playing up or there is a bad connection in the EAS box.
May just need the sensor connector cleaning, zero cost and for that you'd spend £400 downgrading the suspension?

Thanks to those who responded. Guess the concensus is a resounding "Don't convert to coil springs" so will battle on with EAS.

I can vouch for the inferior ride on springs, being lucky enough :) to own both; the ride is more refined on air.

If you can just tackle things step by step the EAS is not too demanding to keep healthy (ok, I know this is easy for me to say ....).

The P38 doesn't ride particularly well on EAS (compared to other Range Rovers) - why anyone would want to convert to coils is beyond me!

Right guys jumping on this one, my Rangie has coils on it when i bought it, what would it take to put it back on air???, many thanks

That entirely depends what is missing. Four airbags for a start.

There is still the compressor etc and pipes ecu etc and the res under the motor all the lights still flash away andnot sure what else there should be, what i need to look for or why they swapped it

If you intend to replace EAS PM Keith (Datatek) he will relieve you of a few quid and send you the EASunlock disc with RAVE on it and other stuff, and a cable to connect to a laptop for diagnostics. You need all the pipework in place four height sensors compressor and valve block. Only when you have fitted new air bags and cleared any faults will you be able to start properly to sort out what was wrong with it. You maybe looking at a new compressor seal and valve block O rings and diaphragm. It is pretty easy stuff when you get into it. Look at this to start with. Hi, I too am looking to change from coil to air, picking car up Saturday will then find out what has been left in tacked from the air suspension.

I'm in South Bristol. Have got a P38 with fully functioning EAS and a spare valve block and driver pack in my garage. If I can help PM me.
