Have thought about it on several occasions and looked at various pay and play sites. Would like to get it properly muddy but don't really want to bend it and scratch the crap out of the paint with some hedgerow.

yeah, same here.. i'd be worried i'd rip the sills off too..

i saw a bobtailed P38 in a landy mag ages ago, and that looked pretty smart!

i've been to loads of these pay and play things, but never saw any p38's in the mud..

A few yrs back I took the Mrs to the Land Rover Experience at the factory as a burfday pressie.

Thay ran a couple of P38s round that but fron and rear lower bumpers removed, no side steps or mudflaps to get the clearances up a bit.

Big difference is they proably didn't worry about damaging the cars, and the circuit is designed to really show off what these cars can do.......which is a hell of a lot more than I'd do in my OWN car.

i went to a landrover show and that 'landrover experience' was there.. they took me round the course in a brandnew range rover sport.. he took it through really deep water that was half up the doors, and went through some really deep mud too.. it was great! not sure i'd take mine round it either to be honest! he he

I have, once - and I was truly amazed at how capable and competent it is off-road.

My P38 is mainly used as a run-around about town only, for which it is properly brilliant - nice comfortable ride, pretty good stereo, handles speed-bumps just great (I've stopped slowing down for them altogether now), great A/C, heated screen and seats, easy to get in and out of and of course that very nice view and as mine is a 4.6 it is pretty nippy too. And if the young lads in their Corsas really insist on arguing over that bit of road they are welcome to do so should they so choose - I think I know who'd come of worse. ;)

It is amazing, and very apparent compared with when driving my other main car where this doesn't happen, how other drivers appear to assume a P38 will be rather sluggish, and that they frequently get surprised when it is not. My driving style can probably be described as a bit 'enthusiastic'. Even though I very rarely exceed the speed limit by any significant amount I tend to make darn sure I arrive at is as quickly as is possible.

The one improvement it could do with is parking sensors though, I have a set to be fitted to the rear bumper as soon the worst of the cold has passed.

For motorway work and spirited country driving I use a BMW 740i which is properly quick but a very, very different vehicle altogether, and I very rarely encounter other drivers expecting that one to be sluggish. :)

I took mine out for the fitst time about a month ago

YouTube - Sibbertoft 25th Nov 2007

It was fun. It didn't seem as capable as the raised Disco I had a lesson in earlier, but that had proper off road tyres.

I feel a lot more confident in its abilities now.

I haven't taken mine offroad although I would like to if I can find a nice site in the Devon/Somerset/Dorset area where I can play without damaging the car.
I used to offroad quite a bit, here's a couple of links:
YouTube - Build a Bobtail
YouTube - Bobtail Range Rovers

If you look at my other videos, you will see that I used to build offroaders including an earlier Range Rover and a Jeep CJ7 too. For those of you that are also into two wheels you can see a video from my bike racing days too!

Does this count as "taking it offroading" ?
