Do you regret buying a Freelander?

owning a freelander is like owning any other landrover, it will have its problems, but it'll always make up for them and put a smile on your face.

First Freelander back in 1999, company car, brilliant, missed it and finally bought an 04 facelift TD4 a couple of weeks ago. Had her serviced, new brakes and anti roll bar replaced then on the weekend had VCU done at Bell.

Did 700 miles this weekend and she didn't miss a beat...and I haven't stopped smiling :D

Had mine a year now, done 14k miles 77k overall , had a few problems but love it! It's been the best car I've owned, lovely to drive and now to work on!

Hoping to keep it past 100k!

I will have owned mine for a couple of years soon, and with 121,000 miles on it, it drives like a dream. :)

Once I was able to replace the mixed tyres with a single brand and type (Maxxis Marauders - budgets) the road noise fell away dramatically.

I still hope to own a Defender aswell though! :)

Only a thousand? Pfffff you got off lightly. I've had mine just over a years and done about 7k, it's cost me about 2.5k in bits and pieces and all DIY, but then I got it for nothing so I don't mind.

thing is i paid 3000 for it and to be fair i expected it to have the odd problem but tis one thing after another and like i said once its fixed itll have to go cos therez no money left to mot it or insure it

I voted blue.
Costing me a bit now, but nothing goes like it on the snow, and it's awesome on mud fields too. With a disabled passenger, it serves us very well. Great car. My first auto-box too, very smooth :)

Had an SD4 on road tyres. Apart from the lesser ground clearance it went everywhere the defender on off road tyres went. .......but maybe that says more about my driving ability than the cars abilities lol. Swapped it for a Disco 3. The D3 isn't as comfortable or as responsive as the FL2.

I wouldn't say that. It's just that its a different beast. It's a G4. At over 3 tons I didn't expect it to be like lightening lol

I love my '99 K series FL. Bought it with 102 k on the clock. Needed some tlc but I found it easy to work on. It still has some niggles to iron out and it's in 2WD at the mo due to a shot VCU. I'd buy another but I'll stick with FL1. Maybe a V6 next time.

I bought it , i love driving it but have the classic 3 amigos problem ......had recon abs pump which has failed after 6 weeks ( 3 month warranty) so needs another ...gutted.

V6 all the way for me ;) Hippo practicality with hot hatch pace!!

According to what I've read elsewhere on here, the Td4 version is not all that much slower than the V6, without the K-series worries, and a much better mpg...??

I would imagine where you loose out is 'terminal velocity'

Any truth?

.

I wouldn't buy another FL1 TD4. Not that it has actually let me down, but there always seems to be another rattle, knock buzz or squeak which is a pig to find. I have had mine about 3 years now, but always feel that at some point it's going to crap out big time. I'd risk an FL2 TD4 though, maybe they're a bit more refined and reliable, who knows though eh? :rolly:
