hi, what tyres and wheels have you got on there?

Wheels are 10"x15" Modulars with an offset of 32mm. These came from paddocks and were really reasonable. The tyres are GT Radial Adventuros and are 33"x12.5"x15". I got these from Event Tyres for £98 each fitted including VAT. They come to your house and fit them too.

Must be all finished by now!?!
:hysterically_laughi

Seriously....... I have the following jobs to do tinght,

  1. Fit fuel tank
  2. Fit sender with modified fuel pipe as the originals rusted away
  3. Secure boot floor
  4. Fit seat belt anchors to front cabin
  5. Connect up the indicators and look at the side lights
Then I have to do...

  1. Fit front brake pads
  2. Re-Bleed as the brakes appear too spongie
  3. Fit arches -
I am having a few issues getting a hold of the arches as I cant really rely on the post at the moment. Challenger dont have any so I am seeing if Kieth Gott has some.

Starting to feel the pressure and strain a bit now. Hopefully all up and running for Thursday evening and then you can have it for Friday. If not then are you able to MOT during the next week?

Then Water Lane..........................................Once diff guards sorted.

Oh and I need a bumper....

Not much to finish then really matey!!
Yeah I'm working the 28th -30th so should be able to get it in 1 way or another!!

As for bumper either don't fit it as its not required for the mot,
or if it's after Xmas you can use mine for a bit as I will have fitted my new one as of around lunch time on the 25th lol

Just found some arches at Gotts so will try and get them tonight before they shut. 30mins to Alton on the bike ummmm

Cool - It will be done soooonnnnnn yeah

Matt,

Well I managed to get the arches tonight. However if the guys cock their eyes at me again in there I will never give them any business again. I mean if they are unhappy about taking almost £200 in sales because it's 5:25pm then don't post a closing time of 5:30pm. God customer service guys come on......

Anyhow with the little moan over and done with.... I have done the fuel sender so that's ready for fitting when the tank is in. Soon be ready for starting!!!

Regards the MOT, I will give you a shout as I believe it is going to be the 28th or 29th as I need daylight to do the arches and a final check over. Still worried about the brakes though so fingers crossed when it starts moving under its own power lol

the breaks might be allot better when the motor is running

Evening mate,

Yeah I had thought that once the vacuum is applied it may be better and have more pedal feel so to speak.

I am a little concerned only in as much that previous to the calipers and brake pipes being removed the brakes were spot on. Last time I had an issue like this I had to replace a master cylinder on an A8. Expensive. But if all else fails I can always throw an anchor out eh lol

Got my extended arches tonight. Went for plus 75mm extension and it just fits the wheel offset :D

How's your roll cage doing?

The brakes will be a different story with the vacuum assistance working.

However, are you sure you got the bleed procedure correct? The front calipers need two nipples bleeding at the same time then the third one on it's own.

Cheers

Hi Noisy,

The bleeding procedure was a sad story as I couldnt undo the third nipple on one side and the one of the two on the other. I know that there is bound to be air in there but hopefully it will be better once the engine is running.

The other bug bear was that I had to bleed the rear calipers using the pipe rather than the nipples. Like I said before the calipers are in a rusty ****e state and needed a good clean to bring them to any descent condition. However the pad surface and pistons were in great shape.

Fingers crossed as Im getting a little ****ed off with it at the moment. Christmas is here and my bike, which I am using for work, is also in need of some love and attention.

Ian, you need a large hammer and a decent sized piece of flat bar, at least 6mm thick, around inch wide.

You need to hammer down on the Caliper using the bar as a drift around the nipple threads, also hammer the nipple itself using the bar working around it on each of the flats.

Try to get some impact on the top of the hex section of the nipple also. Be very careful not to snap the nipple but you need to hammer as hard as possible other wise.

Give each nipple some really intense shock, if this won't loosen them then only heat will.

Trust me dude my calipers were rusted to one solid piece and an old boy mechanic from round the corner taught me this method, and without much of a do all the nipples were removed. Usually they can be Picked out but sometimes they are too blocked and need renewal. I fitted new all round regardless, and new rubber caps also, which are a god send when it comes to bleeding after off roading!

Cheers Sam,

Thats a good tip and I do have some flat bar at home in the garage so I will try that once i get to fitting the front pads tomorrow or Saturday. (The missus has relented and I get to work on the old girl Christmas Eve :D)

Paul,

I have swopped to penetrating oil as well but thanks for that.

Sounds good Ian, just remember, be delicate where necessary but otherwise hammer like ****. The nipples themselves are about 9mm thick, with a 2mm hole through them so guy are pretty strong. Best of luck!

Merry Christmas guys,

So today I got a little further to completion.

This morning I fitted the fuel tank and connected all the pipes up. Found that when I lifted the body I pulled out the return pipe from the lift pump to the filter. Hadn't noticed that before so lesson to all following.

What with draining the fuel system from the filter back and then the busted pipe from the lift pump I didn't hold much hope that she would start. After all the lift pump didn't seem to pull any fuel up so I just turned the key in the vain hope that the starter would bleed the system.

Well after 6 months I was a little shocked and stunned when she immediately fired up and ticked over. A little miss for a slit second and then reved away like a trooper. So today she moved a few feet under her own power again yeahhhhhh

All the new lights work and there are no signs so far of leaks etc.

S then I had a few minutes before Christmas duty pulled me away so I fitted the front offside extended arch. I will complete the car on the 27th and then wash and polish the old girl and take some well earned pictures.

BTW - brakes are still **** :-(
